WWE Smackdown vs. Raw 2007 (PS2)
by Thebaker50
Smackdown vs raw 2007 is a game as part of the WWE franchise, and is a game where you can play various game modes, such as:
Single match, 1v1, pinfall or submission wins
Tornado, same as above but 2v2 if team tornado or 4 vs each other if just normal tornado)
Triple threat, 3 in the ring, only 1 will ... remain)
Ladder, (can either be tornado or 1v1 or triple threat, you need to grab a suitacse suspended on the top of the ring by climbing a ladder, but others will throw you off the ladder)
Steel cage (can be single, tornado), escape the steel cage
Hell in a cell, 6 wrestlers, random entry system, pin the opponents
TLC, the ring is littered with steel chairs, ladders, tables, just hurt your opponenets (again single, tornado availble)
Battleroyal, basically loads of wrestlers enter the ring, and to defeat them you must throw them out.
There are a few other modes, but there are actually too many to list, these are the main ones though.
This game has an ok single player mode, where you can choose (or even make your own) wrestler, and do a story mode where you try to win the title, and do other various tasks like protecting friends etc. At each stage you have a system of choices, for example, do you help your friend vs a tough opponenent, or betray him for a stronger ally? And what do you do when someone challenges you? Its actually quite a good feature of the game, but i have never reallyplayed the same story mode more than a few times (there is a RAW and smackdown storyline), so i do not know if the choices you made have any real impact on the final matches or storyline.
The best thing however is the multiplayer mode. THis is one of the few games where you can truly play with up to 4 players without the tv screen being split so many times you can't see what you are doing. Because the camera if always on the ring, you can have 4 players and you will be all on the same screen. This is a real plus for this game, and it can be quite fun and theraputic punching the daylights out of your friends!
However this game doesn't have good "longegivity", and after a while it does get a bit boring. I mean all the game modes start to roll into one, as they all involve pretty similar stuff. Also the wrestlers movie clips between levels can be a bit lame, they don't seem to move naturally, and there are weird awkward pauses between the dialougues. ITs not a big thing at first, but it really does get on your nerves as time goes on.
Overall then, i would get this game for a good two player game that you can play on the same console. This game is also on the newer consoles (ps3 and 360), and these games have a embarssing lack of Co-op splitscreen games. This game is a good one to play with friends when they come round. NBA 2K12 (PS2)
by Lakerfanster
**Introduction**
I am a massive fan of Basketball and whilst I love to watch and play the Sport, I also love to play the video games and after the NBA Live series finished on Playstation 2 I had to choose a different Basketball game to play and luckily the NBA 2K series is just as good and is in some areas better than the NBA ... Live series from Electronic Arts. NBA 2K is from the Take 2 Interactive developer and like NBA Live is an annual series. The first edition was released on the Gamecast only and was for the 99/00 season. All of the games are released in time of the upcoming season and feature up to date rosters with new players from the Draft process and free agents and traded players at their new teams.
**The Gameplay**
When moving to the new series I wanted things to be as good if not better than the experience on the NBA Live series and the Gameplay on NBA2K12 really excels. You can play with any team and the game includes some great teams in History which you can play with. These include great Chicago Bulls, Boston Celtics and Los Angeles Lakers teams. You can also create players and have them join your favourite team and play the whole season, This effectively allows you to create yourself and have you playing in the game alongside some of your favourite players. This is a feature I have used and I have also added some new players to the rosters this way.
**Graphics**
There are really some amazing Graphics in games now with Car Racing games and stuff like Call of Duty Modern Warfare getting the major plaudits but the Graphics here are excellent too with lifelike players and moves and the whole experience is very similar to that of an actual NBA game broadcast with the excellent Arenas dealt with excellently and the overall TV like feel of the experience. The Graphics on all areas of the game are superb and shows that the developers have spent time and effort on getting the Graphics right as well as everything else to make the best possible gaming experience.
**2011 Lockout**
Due to the NBA Lockout which led to the NBA Season only lasting 66 games instead of the usual 82 and the actual season starting on Christmas Day there are some roster changes that are not shown on the game but if you connect to the Internet you are able to download the updated rosters with the relevant information all there for you. I don't think that this is a major problem and is not a fault with the game and the way it was developed but just of the NBA Process with it taking so long to renew the Collective Bargaining agreement.
**The Team**
I mentioned earlier that the presentation is handled just like the TV Coverage so here's a bit more information on that, The usual ESPN Team is there for the TV like production Kevin Harlan, Clark Kellogg and Doris Burke. The former Chicago Bulls Point Guard Steve Kerr also joins the team as he moved from the NBA Live series to feature as a commentator with Harlan. The commentary is knowledgeable and professional as you would expect from the two big names who regularly commentate in NBA Games for the Network.
**Association Mode**
This is where the meat of the game is, It's an excellent and key part of the game which allows the player to start a dynasty and try to put together a team that will win and dominate for years. You can scout players, make trades, set training regimes and also track all sorts of stats around the League to see how you are comparing against the others team in the NBA. There's also a League wide News like platform for hearing about players who may be interested in joining your team and just all about the players and any injuries that have happened around the League. This is basically your day to day hub for everything that is happening both at your team and around the NBA so it's worth getting an understanding of this part to best enable you to compete at the highest level.
**Overall**
This is an absolutely fantastic game with excellent game play, graphics and overall package. You can find the game for around £12 which is a bargain in my eyes. The game is on the following platforms Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 2, PlayStation Portable, Wii, Microsoft Windows, iOS, Cloud (OnLive). The price I quote is for the PlayStation 2 version which is the game that I have. This is a fun and comprehensive game for any NBA Fan and one that will give the user many many hours of pleasure. It's not a game that you should grow sick of as there's so much more to it. Read the complete review |
