SSX ON TOUR: The fourth and hopefully not final edition to the SSX series.
I played the original at a friends house, and although I struggled to win anything, I enjoyed the challenge and began to practise a little too often. After becoming rather professional, winning all medals and beating any of my friends, I continued to purchase the second, SSX Tricky.
This game also overwhelmed me as my sister actually became a playstation addict because of it. It was easy to learn and the graphics and tricks were impressive; naturally I asked for SSX3 for christmas.
Christmas came and so did the game. It took my breath away as I began blowing off meetings and hiding in my room for hours on end to satisfy my white powder cravings.
As an avid skiier, and a HUGE fan on the SSX series, I was counting the days until this game was released. It was the first to contain skiing as well as boarding, a promising touch to such a long-living series. It did not disappoint, but for some reason I felt somewhat less amazed by the game compared to the first three.
Everything has been given almost a punk-rock makeover. The character you play as is one that you create from scratch, and you choose your own symbol to match your attitude. This was also a nice new touch, but similar to a lot of other games.
The graphics are of pretty average standard. There is nothing wrong with them in the slightest, there was just the usual picture quality but with more attractive snow and landscape.
The soundtrack is still one of the best around. SSX games are well known for having awesome tunes to enhance your gaming pleasure, and they surely do not disappoint. I particularly liked having to earn and buy the songs, and then customize them on your own radio station complete with reworked peak DJ.
The skiing event makes for a rather different experience. Although the levels, items and rewards are the same, the actual gameplay changes greatly, giving you more control, tighter turns and very complex tricks.
Unforunately this game did lack something. I feel very guilty for saying this as I am not quite sure what it was that I longed for, but I am afraid my needs weren't met. Mind you, I know of several others who enjoyed this just as much of the rest, and perhaps I have not played it enough to give it a chance.
Try it for yourself and let me know what you think.
Summary: Unsure, love the SSX series though
