This is a review on the newest Getaway game called The Getaway: Black Monday. This is the first review I have done on these types of games, so please bare with me, and I hope that I make a lot of sense! I shall be talking about the previous game a bit so you know what’s going on, and what’s happened, and I will talk about the actual game itself.

Previously on the Getaway, Mark Hammond (main character), is recovering from the death of his wife, and the kidnapping of his son, he then helps out these gangsters as he was previously one of them. He does all sorts of things, including disobeying the law, illegal actions were done. As Mark got really pi$$ed off, he got his gun, and then went on a full attack against Charlie Jolson (the gangster he was forced to help out). After you played with Mark Hammond, you became this hardcore cop that was tailing Mark, as he was previously accused of being a murder, and you follow through his footsteps.

After you have completed the missions with Mark Hammond, you would have been able to play roam around, which allows you to do anything in London. You will still have the option of doing the Cop missions, if you so wish. Black Monday, the newest Getaway game. You play the role of DC Mitch and you are a police officer, fighting crime, so this has some disadvantages as you can’t pick up any weapon you like as you have been issued with a certain weapon. You will be able to pick up ammo, but you will not be able to do that manually, Mitch does that when he is low on ammo, and you go by the right ammo for the weapon you are using.

There are 3 characters playable on this game, which you will be able to unlock when you finish one characters mission, then another character will be unlocked, but I will not talk about them as it will spoil the surprise for those who have not got them yet. There are loads of missions to do which will be done side by side, you will not be able to roam around as such, and you will be forced to do the missions first before hand. Once done the missions, you will have unlocked Roam around, and then you will be able to have fun just driving, running over people, the usual really.

You will realise during the game, the further you get, the more privileges you will have. The first few missions are quite easy, and very fun. But the problem about this game is that they don’t tell you what the controls are, so I will help you with that further in the review. Every mission which involves driving, you will be the driver, so better get your glasses on, because you will need to be prepared for anything out there. Normally while you are driving and you have other cops in there with you, they will start to bad mouth your driving if you are becoming slow, or made a wrong turn.

You will know where you are going on a mission while driving, because there is no map, so you will have to look at the back of the car’s indicators, which will flicker when they want you to turn in that directions. When both of them are on, that means that you are at the destination you are meant to be at. There are some new stuff to this game, like being able to ride motor bikes, and better weapons, but that is pretty much the new features, maybe some new vehicles also, but the missions are very good! The controls are easy to get use to, but I will tell you what the controls are if you are a beginner or planning on getting this game. So here we go…

You use the directional pad to move forward and backwards and side to side. You push the X button to do a commando role forwards or if you are up against a wall, by pushing X, you will lean up against it. You shoot by using the circle button, depending what weapon you got is depending if you should hold it down or not. You can aim with the gun manually buy holding down the R2 button, and aim automatically with the R1 button. That is the basic controls for the Moving around and shooting. Its pretty much the usual controls for this really. You push the X button to accelerate, the square button to brake / reverse. You use the circle button to get in and out of the car. R1 for the handbrake, and then that’s it. Have fun driving around!

This game is very enjoyable, keeps you on your toes, a lot of action and shooting is needed for this game. Very entertaining indeed. The game is very addictive, once you have done the first mission, you will want to continue for a long, long time. The game is not too original as there have been quite a few games like this, but the game does have original missions, and that’s what counts. The graphics for this game are superb, all of the detail that is in the character facial features, just excellent.

The background music to the game is good, you get some music in the car, not from the radio, just driving music that has been created by the getaway people, kind of suspense music. There are voices in this game, so best to listen to the game then just watching it, also there is a lot of bad language in this game so that’s why it is an 18 and should not be good for children. The game is not that difficult at start, but it does get much harder later on throughout the missions, but you will be able to complete the mission eventually though, just can get annoying for a while.

The game is great value for money, you can get is for the cheapest price I’ve seen is £20, which I think was at play.com or tesco.com or something like that, but great value though. I shall give this game a 4 star rating * * * *, as I have seen better games, yet the game is still very good, could have had better things, but I just don’t know what at this moment of time. I recommend this to most people, but not for kids, unless they are use to this type of game, but then its up to your parents.

Thanks For Reading!
