Advantages: Good story, interesting characters, London is accurate
Disadvantages: Stealth gameplay a bit poor
The Getaway Black Monday is an action game developed by Sonys London Studio exclusively for the Playstation 2.
The story doesn't tie in to the previous game at all except for the fact that it is set in London, so playing that isn't necessary. The story follows multiple character this time Sergeant Ben Mitchell a police officer, Eddie O Conner a boxer on the wrong side of the law along with Sam Thompson who works with Eddie and is agile and computer savvy. It is interesting to play the game through the two different viewpoints and when the paths of the characters cross it provides some really intense situations.
The gameplay is a mix of gunplay, driving sequences and some stealth sequences. The driving sequences have been made a little better thanks to making the cars tougher this time around so you won't constantly be catching on fire, and when the games indicator navigation system is messing you around you can go to the pause menu and check the map, I don't see why they couldn't have included any on screen map though.
Sam gets some unique stealth missions but they are a bit hard as she has no way of fighting any of the enemies she encounters so once spotted you have had it.
Gunplay remains mostly the same but it feels slightly easier this time and your character can take a few more bullets, you still recover health by leaning on the walls which is a bit strange as they have included health packs in the game. You can also perform some special actions depending on which character you are for example Eddie can take down enemies with his boxing skills and Sergeant Mitchell can arrest them.
Graphically the game looks a little sharper than the original title still providing you with an accurate London for you to roam around.
The gameplay has improved and the story is interesting too, The Getaway Black Monday is a good action game.
Summary: A good sequel.
