I was really looking forward to this game and now I have started playing it, I am still impressed but not as much I thought be. I have set this review into ten sections, covering the story line, characters, controls, game play, graphics, comparisons, things to look out for, why I wanted this game, recommendations and overview. Each section has my account and views on this game. --Story line-- The game starts with the shooting of a mother and the kidnapping of her son. Her son happens to be your son as well, he is snatched and taken in a car and your adventure starts as you try to get your boy back. Charlie, the criminal mastermind who is keeping the ... I brought this game with the idea it was a GTA type game which meant lots of mindless violence and a bit of driving around which would suit me fine while I was trying to aviod doing Uni work. I was however left with a hollow empty feeling after playing (and completing in a week) this game that I didn't get after playing the later two GTA titles. Although I know it is wrong to compare the two, and yes I am aware this was in development long before GTA 3 came out and perhaps that is why I am so disappointed. Well now i've lulled you into a "why this game sucks" start and some of you are shaking your heads tutting and giving ... Read the complete review

~ ~ A wee word of warning before I go any further with this review. If you are the sort who is opposed to gratuitous violence and loads of sweary words in video games, then this PS2 game, “The Getaway”, will most likely give you heart failure! Right from the opening video sequences, every second word is of the colourful variety, and the violence is both extreme and vividly graphic in nature. My wee lass (12-year-old) had been pestering me to buy her this game for ages, so I rented it for two nights from my local video store first, to see if I considered it suitable for a girl of her age. Frankly, it isn’t at all suitable, but the game itself ... Read the complete review

Controversy, a word that by very simple definition means debatable, it is debatable because one must question whether it is right, it stirs a debate between people. One must debate whether or not the "controversial" matter should have taken place as it has aroused concern. Controversy within games seems to be forever increasing; when Resident Evil came out that was controversial, watching horror movies with zombies is one thing but playing in a game where you blow the head clean off a zombie and can get physically mutilated by a zombie is quite another. The problem with video games is that the public underestimate the intelligence of the gamer, they feel that these games ... Read the complete review

The Getaway was apparently a very highly anticipated game even back in the days before the launch of Sony's PS2 console. Yet somehow it has managed to slip through my own gaming radar almost completely undetected; I knew the name and the promotional posters but couldn't have told you anything more detailed than that. However it was recommended to me by a guy at work and so I decided to rent the game and give it a little spin. In all honesty though I can't really understand the fuss behind the game; it certainly does do a lot of things spectacularly, but then in other areas it does badly enough to severely hurt the ...
