Good alternative to GTA (The Getaway (PS2))

For its age this game offers a quite impressive representation of London City. When I bought this game I was looking for a viable alternative to the elusive GTA III and I was not disappointed. First of all the story is impressive. For half the game you play as Mark Hammond as you complete missions for a London Gang boss who has kidnapped your son. If you do not complete the things he asks you to do your son dies. For the second half of the game you play as a cop who investigates the crimes that Hammond commits to keep his son alive. This strategy of telling the story works well and keeps you intrigued wanting more. Gameplay however is average at best with poor driving and shooting. This wrecked the experience of the game somewhat for me but other than that I really enjoyed my experience in London. Realism is captured well in the game, it is just a pity the gameplay does not deliver the goods.

Summary: A good game let down by some serious flaws.
