Advantages: good graphics, realistic
Disadvantages: easy to complete
This Christmas I got a Playstation 2 and Lord Of The Rings: Two Towers was another game I bought with it. I haven't played the PS2 game for the first film but didn't think that really mattered. The game is very realistic and the characters really do look real, so do the settings. The whole point of this game is to begin from the top of the cliff where the ringwraiths were very close to completing their mission of retrieving the ring. Frodo was stabbed with an immortal blade. You then have to fight off the ringwraiths and are taken all the way to Helm's Deep. There are not many levels though. I bought this game and in about 3 weeks of playing completed this but if I had stayed at my computer all day with no braks then possibly I could have completed it within 24 hours. You go ahead through all of the levels such as Fangorn Forest, Edoras killing many orcs and Uruk-Hai on your travels and also having some encounters with cave trolls.
Lord Of The Rings is a trilogy and these games are taken from the film which was adapted from the original books written by J. R R. Tolkien. Frodo Baggins is a hobbit who lived in the Shire which was a safe happy community where the grass is always green and the skies are always blue but then something made it not so safe. Bilbo, Frodo's uncle then found a Ring which Gandalf the Grey a wise wizard knew about. This Ring was no good and gave the bearer lots of power which enabled the owner to take over the world, it made them do nothing of a good nature, only evil. Gandalf then told Bilbo to leave the Ring and give it to Frodo. Bilbo escaped to the community of Rivendell where the elves lived peacefully. Frodo discovered the Ring and Gandalf told him what he must do, return it to Mount Doom.
The Ring wanted to be found by it's master Sauron, the creator who would only take over the world and make it evil which would mean there would be no Shire. The ringwraiths were also sent out to get the ring back
so Frodo had to move quickly becaue they were all on horseback and would catch up quickly. Saruman is another wizard who turned evil and also does what Sauron tells him to. Frodo gets to where Gandalf tells him and eventually Frodo and Sam, his gardener get to Rivendell where a fellowship is formed to take the Ring to Mount Doom and destroy it. Frodo volunteers to take it but says he will only go if he is shown the way so then everyone helps him and the journey begins.
To play this game you need:
-8MB Memory Card because if you don't save you will have to start again and it is impossible to complete this game without dying.
-Anaolgue Control, easier to use
-This is only 1 player compatible
There are only three characters to choose from in this game, they are Gimli, Aragorn and Legolas. In the game for the first film you could choose from the other characters but in the Two Towers game it ia different. My personal favourite character to play with is Aragorn because he can use his sword and shoot arrows but with the others there isn't much of a choice. I played using Legolas at first but the arrows take ages to shoot when you have enemies coming towards you all of the time. Gimli has only his axe and he can throw it but still it isn't as quick as using a sword and shooting at enemies higher up. When you use the characters after every level you earn money which you can spend to buy new things such as stronger arrows, or powers that work on your swords and energy so that evertime you are nearly dead bottles appear which you collect and this automatically makes your energy complete again. With the arrows you can aim high lower and in all directions to get an accurate hit.
Throughout the game Gimli and Legolas will help you fight if you are Aragorn so that it helps but sometimes you might have to help them or they disappear and run ahead. When you purchases new items you might need to
have a previous arrow type and you are told what buttons to use to make these powers work. They are necessary because just using simple hits won't make you win.
The levels are really good and very real, it has some levels from the first film and then from the current film. You have to save the people of Rohan before the Uruk-Hai come to kill them all so you go through Edoras killing all of the Uruk-hai before walls burn down and it is too late. In one level you have to stop uruk-hai and orcs from getting through a gate where the women and children are and by shooting the kamikaze uruk-hai which blow up and kill all of the enemies surrounding them. This is hard because you have to kill the ones approaching but some are already at the gate pushing it so that it will fall down. You are told in the corner what the door is like and how long it will be before it collapses.
There are also levels where you are on the fortress of Helm's Deep killing the enemies but pushing down ladders so more can't come up but they still keep pushing the ladders up again. The difficulty of the levels isn't too bad I found after a while trying they were quite easy to complete. The last level is the hardest when the Uruk-hai and orcs are inside Helm's Deep and you have to kill them I used Isildur's Judgement which then shot power from the sword and killed orcs around. You have to save Legolas above on this level and also stop the enemy from breaking down the door where the women and children are. This is a difficult level but once complete you get a preview of the third film I am sure. There are some difficult enemies which take about 3 hits to kill but on the way you can pick up arrows you can only pick them up when you have less than 30 and this is the same for axes with Gimli.
To raise a lot of money at the end you need to get more goods, excellents and perfects to get lots because fair is not very high. The ratings appear on the screen
when an orc dies so you know they are dead and it will either say good or fair but when it is perfect the sword shines brightly and you try to kill as much as possible.
When you complete levels you can see exclusive photos and also you can click on special interviews with the director, Elijah Wood and either Viggo Mortensen, Orlando Bloom and Jonathan Rhys-Davies. You can only see Viggo Mortensen's interview when playing with Aragorn and Jonathan Rhys-Davies after certain levels of playing with his characters and also the same for Orlando Bloom. In the interviews I have seen so far you see Ian McKellen and other people playing the game. So far I still need to play with the characters Gimli and Legolas to see the actor interviews, I will get round to it eventually. In the interviews they talk about how realistic the game looks what they think of how their character is designed on the game if it looks like them and what they think of it overall. They are interesting and it is funny seeing them add the voices to the characters.
I think this game is really good the graphics are great and they really look like the film. The scenery is fantastic and everything seems so real, sometimes it is scary and I feel like I am there. When the game got hard I saved it and tried it the next time and then I was through the game quickly. The levels are really good just like the film having to fight the enemies, use the weapons and it is quite difficult. I thought there could have been more levels and some more scenes from the second film. It is ok but I was disappointed, I thought there would be more levels and when I got to the end I thought there must be more but there wasn't, it was over. I thought it was too easy to complete and even a beginner would finish quickly.
