Advantages: Enthralling gameplay, addictive, faithful to the movie.

Disadvantages: Swearing, violent, too short!

The Warriors video game is the rarest of all gaming beasts: a video game adaption of a motion picture, that not only manages to remain faithful to the film but in its execution, manages to best it!

The Warriors (both the film and game) revolve around a 70's New York, where a eclectic mix of exotic and outlandish street gangs have been called together by the charismatic Cyrus, a Vietnam War veteran and also the leader of the biggest gang in the city. His proposal for a city wide alliance between all warring factions is brutally cut short when he is gunned down in cold blood, and the Warriors find themselves being blamed for his death in the resulting chaos. Trapped several miles behind enemy lines, they must fight their way back home, and for their very survival.

The game itself whilst remaining faithful to the film also helps flesh out the movie by means of a back story. In it, entirely original material is created in order to explain the reasons for why the various Warrior members joined, as well as the various skirmishes they encounter with the other gangs.

For those of you who think that the Warriors is nothing more than your stereotypical, button bashing beat me up, think again. Whilst fighting and hand to hand brawling is the bread and butter of the game it is bulked out by considerably large maps and strategic game play. With breakable objects, all of which can be used as weapons in order to acquire a tactical advantage over the enemy and stealth features, the game rewards ingenuity with sheer brutality.

The game features an authentic soundtrack including several of the hit songs from the film, as well as a few extras including the simply electrifying "Knockin' on Wood" by Amii Stewart, a disco classic. The game features scenes of violence and also strong cursing so parents: you are well warned!

Summary: A very good game.
