Advantages: Good plot, fun beat em up, brutal, entertaining minigames

Disadvantages: Co-op has problems, graphics a little basic

The Warriors is a beat em up developed by Rockstar games for the Playstation 2.

The story follows a gang called the Warriors, the game follows the plot of the move where all the gangs in New York meet up to discuss how to take over the city. Cyrus who is giving a speech gets shot and the Warriors are blamed for it and must escape! The game is told in flashbacks which fills you in on some of the details of the characters and is generally very interesting.

The game is a beat em up style affair you control one of the Warriors, it doesn't matter who you are playing as each Warrior plays the same. You can bust out a good variety of combos using the light and heavy attack buttons as well as some jumps and throws for good measure, the game also lets you pick up some brutal weapons like bricks and it really looks like it hurts when you cave the side of someones face in with your brick!

To spice things up the game lets you take a break with some minigames, you can break into cars and steal the radios, graffiti your tag on the walls, stealing from shops, just regular gang type business, each of the minigames fits in with the style of the Warriors and is satisfying to do.

The game also throws in co-op play which you can use to replay any one of the games story missions with a friend on hand to help you, the camera can get a little strange in co op mode for some reason which can be annoying however.

Graphically the game is reasonable, nothing looks great but everything is passable it looks like Rockstar could be re using the Grand Theft Auto graphics engine.

The Warriors is a good beat em up and you should have some fun with its brutal gang warfare style of gameplay.
