Advantages: Great Graphics, Superb Gameplay, Buy It Today
Disadvantages: Not recommended if you don't like having fun!
Tiger Woods PGA 2002 is such a great game it wouldn't be wrong to say "every PS2 owner should own it! It's an essential buy". Tiger Woods 2002 is the best golf game ever. In fact it probably comes close to being one of the best games of all time. Tiger Woods 2002 is a completely new and innovative golf game. It has a all new and completely innovative control system and boasts ultra realistic graphics. --The Controls-- You use the analogue control stick (either left or right) to control your swing. You simply pull back and push forward. Sounds simple doesn't it? Well it's not as easy as it sounds. You'll need to master how to hit it straight, plus how to add fade, draw and spin. The all new game engine not only means the graphics are superb but the in-game physics are excellent too. In other words your ball will behave the way it should in real life. The real-life courses look suprisingly like their real life counter-parts and the fantasy courses just add a whole new dimension to the game. Courses come complete with ponds, trees and wildlife (birds, squirrels, dears etc...). The waves crashing on the rocks at pebble beach look amazing. The game also as it's own weather system including clouds, rain and occasionally the odd bit of thunder. In all the game has 7 courses. Some are real-life like pebble beach, but others are fantasy courses. In terms of gameplay Tiger Woods 2002 has it all. The game has a career element, which means you can start off as a novice and work your way up to professional status. But you'll need to play alot of good golf to do that. Many birdies, eagles and pars will be needed to beat the likes of Tiger Woods, Monty, Garcia, Rose etc. There are loads of ways to earn money, such as: * Winning tournaments * Getting a good position in a tournament * Playin
g matches * Playing a skins match * Playing a stoke play game * Earning bonuses and mini awards for long putts, great drives, greens in regulation, 5 birdies in a row, back to back eagles etc...(list goes on a on) The money you earn can be spent on attributes for your character to improve putting, driving, chipping, accuracy and spin. By winning in Tiger Woods 2002 you'll often unlock courses and more pro golfers (which you can decide to play as and improve their stats/attributes by earning money). This is especially true in Tiger Challege mode, which pits you against 18 challenges that progressively get harder. By completing a challenge you'll unlock your opponent and unlock one of Tiger's Dream 18 holes. Theres just so much depth to the game that you'll be playing for months to come. You'll often be awarded for doing something abit special, e.g. a hole in one. The game will keep records of longest putts and drives so you or some else can try to beat it and set a new record. It will often let you know when you have a chance to break a record or do something abit special like making it to the green in two on a very windy par 5. Often in these situations the controller will start to pulse in time with the golfers heart beat. It really puts you under pressure for those tricky shots without becoming to tiresome. Other nice touches include the camera rotating around the golfer "matrix style" when you play a really great shot and the ball blasting off, leaving a trail of smoke behind. Or when you get really close to the hole it all goes into slow motion and you can hear the golfers heartbeating. The sound in the game is top notch. Whether it be the sound of your swing, the ball hitting the green, the birds, the waves crashing against the coast on pebble beach, it's superb. <br><br><br><br><br>The golf commentary is very good - but it does somet
imes get abit repetive, but not too much as to spoil the enjoyment of the game. One thing I should mention is the caddy tip feature. When you're putting your caddy will give you tips, e.g. hit it 1 foot 2 inches long and 4 inches right. There is no grid on the green, but with "caddy tip" it's really not something that is needed. The caddy tip feature is really great since it gives you the information you need to make the putt, but you still need to use your own skill and judgement to make putts. Plus your caddy isn't always right and sometimes your caddy won't have any information for you. When putting a white line shows you where and how the ball would travel if you hit it straignt towards the hole. You have to use this info and your caddy to make certain adjustments, e.g. speed (aiming in front or beyond the hole) and direction (aimming so many inches left or right) and make the putt. Multiplayer is where Tiger Woods 2002 really excels. 2 to 4 people can play in matches, skins, stroke play and even arcade speed golf. Speed golf is basically the first one to the hole wins. You have to hit it and then run to where it landed and hit it again. Frantic! ---Conclusion--- Tiger Woods 2002 is a real challenge for any gamer or casual player. It does take time to get used to the analogue control system, but after a few holes I was hitting the ball straight and even adding draw, fade and spin on the ball without too much trouble. After mastering the controls it plays brilliantly. There is a excellent tutourial, which you must play through before you can play anything. But it only takes a about 5 to 10 minutes. Tiger Woods is a must-have game. Great gameplay, great graphics, great sound and plenty of depth. A joy to play even if you don't like golf! I superb combination of arcade and simulation fun that will have you so hooked you'll be playing f
or months to come. Trust Me. Buy It!
