Synopsis
The plot is amazingly intricate, like something you would expect from a film. With tensions running high between the East Asian country Japan, North Korea and China, Japan develop a self defense system. This is to China and Korea's displeasure, so they decide to set up a blockade against Japanese shipping.
You play Sam fisher, an operative of the 'Third Echelon', a highly secretive branch of the NSA. You are dispatched on an assignment to retrieve American Computer programmer Bruce Morgenholt. You are then assigned the job of assassinating the leader of a Peruvian separatist's group, 'The people's voice'. A new weapon has been made, called the masse kernels, which would prove disastrous if they fell into the wrong hands. You work through the game, systematically trying to retrieve the masse kernels, completing objectives as you proceed. This is but a brief overview of the complex plot
The game is based in stealth game-play. By sticking to shadows, measured by your light meter, and making limited noise, measured by your sound meter, you can take care of enemies without the need of fire fights, by simply grabbing them from behind, also giving you the option of interrogating certain enemies. There are a couple of gadgets that help you along your way.
All in one goggles- Equip with night vision mode, thermal recognition mode and electromagnetic field mode (allowing you to see functioning electrical equipment)
The SC-20K modular assault rifle- A automatics, semi automatic or single shot rifle, with capabilities to attach many items, such as sticky shockers, sticky cameras, airfoil rounds, sniper scopes and silencers. The Sticky Camera will show an image of the area in which you shot it. It can make a clicking sound that will attract enemies, and also emit a CS gas that will render unconscious any enemies in the immediate area. The Sticky Shocker will shock and incapacitate its target when fired. If shot into a body of water, the shocker will incapacitate all targets in the water. The Airfoil Round is a hollow metal ring that will knock out the target.
A 28mm pistol- Featuring the Optically Channeled Potentiator, or the OCP. When fired at certain electrical equipment, it can render it useless for a limited time, useful for taking out CCTV cameras.
Throughout this game, there are some really great missions. By using different approaches, you can change the outcome of a level totally, either using all out stealth, or simply taking out guards, regardless of getting spotted. The graphics are extremely life like, and the audio is superbly crisp and clear, and used to great effect. A really good game, part of a really good series, well worth the play.
Summary: A wonderful stealth game
