Tony Hawk Underground 2 is the latest installment in the Tony Hawk series of skateboarding games. I was a big fan of the series on the PS1 but the game has progressed a lot since then. This new game has a storyline featuring the Jackass crew, basically Tony Hawk competes with Bam Margera in a competition who can get the most points by doing skating and other wacky challenges. The Jackass humour is funny at first but soon gets tiresome, but you can always just skip the cut-scenes anyway.
The controls are very easy to learn, with a nice tutorial at the start of the game to get you into it. Previous players of the Tony Hawk franchise will have no problem playing it straight away. The levels move onto a different city each time, each complete with their own playable special characters and different challenges. The levels are fun but still challenging, and there is enough variation in the challenges to keep the player interested. The graphics are hardly amazing, but they serve their purpose and their is never any lag in the gameplay.
The multiplayer is another good feature aswell, with enough modes to keep you and a friend busy. There is also the creator mode which is okay but not brilliant.
Tony Hawks Underground 2 is a skating game for the Playstation 2 developed by Neversoft.
The story in the game is rather silly thanks to the games focus on its new co star of Jackass fame Bam Margera, he and Tony want to team up going on a tour around the world on world destruction tour which involves two teams of skaters going around trying to destroy everything they can! The game is just ridiculous all the way through and you will either love the Jackass humour or find it distasteful.
The game features the classic Tony Hawk style of gameplay, you will go around the games levels and acoomplish goals like grinding from one location to the other, getting a high score or performing a certain trick. There are some new tricks like the sticker slap which is basically a wallplant but you can keep going after it.
The game also lets you do freak out moves if you fall off your board by mashing on the triangle button you can build up a meter that lets you destroy your board and get some bonus points to add to your combo. You can also use the slow motion special move to help you out on your way to earning millions of points in combos!
The off board action has thankfully been toned down and the game has gotten rid of the horrible vehicle sections that were in the first. The game also includes classic mode which is like the action found in the older Tony Hawks and even includes some of the older levels, here you get a timed run and must complete certain goals in that run like collecting secret tapes, getting a high score and so on.
Graphics don't seem to have improved to much from the previous game unfortunately but the voice acting in the story mode is suitably "extreme" and fits the tone of the game.
Tony Hawks Underground 2 is another excellent skating game with a fun story and classic mode to keep any skating enthusiast busy for a long time.
Tony hawks has always been a massive game on every console, tony hawks underground 2 also lives up to this pedigree of being a top game for the playstation.
The gameplay is very good, the game is very free flowing, and allows you to perform 100s of different tricks and combos using manuals to bump up your score and keep your combo going. The game has no lag and runs very smoothly as with all other Tony Hawks games. The game can also contain bits of humour in the story mode. You can even spray graffiti on the walls to leave your mark of where you've been.
The graphics for this game are very pleasing to the eye, the characters are all life like, and all have there usual clothing and styles about them. The different enviroments in the game are very nice, the scenery looks very good and there isn't any kind of lag because of the high quality graphics.
The sound in the game is very good and features music from Johnny Cash with the ever popular 'Ring of Fire', the game also feautes the likes of Jimmy Eat World, Faith No More and The Doors. Each character also has the real voice which is a nice touch to the game, and the sound is very good when your skater falls to the floor and when you land on your board after perfoming a trick.
The game modes include a story mode where you create your own character and try and progress to be the best skateboard in the world, by taking part in tournaments to raise your profile. There ar loads of different challenges to take part in to raise your profile and get you money so you can buy new skateboards etc. There is also a nice multiplayer mode where you can play against your mates trying to get the top score and longest combo.
Overall i really enjoy this game, it has a great soundtrack and brilliant gameplay. 8/10
Tony Hawk's Underground 2 is the sequel to the original Tony Hawk's undergound and I really did love it. The first thing that I loved about the game was that it combined 2 games into one. Not only do you have the classic mode where you try to achieve the various goals on the map but there is also a story mode available. In the story mode it is possible to have a character and take him through missions as it were just like in a different game. I found it to be an excellent new feature and I really did enjoy it, from this alone I would really recommend this game.
I found that the graphics were really good and they are shown to their full capacity in the various maps that are available. I really liked how there is a wide vareity in the types of maps and each has its own major benefits. There is even some new vehicles in the game such as a strange scooter thing that will have you flying around the skatepark! The developers have once again added an element of personalisation by allowing you to put your own personalised graphitti on the walls of the skatepark!
Overall I really did think that this was a greta sequel to the original and would really recommend getting this. I thought that the overall quality of the gameplay was as good as ever and with the added features it was even more enjoyable to play. I hope this was useful and thank you very much for reading this.
i bought THUG1 when it first came out and loved it. when i heard THUG2 was due to be released i decided i NEEDED it in my life!!
it is by far the best game i've ever bought, and ended up playing it for hours! Although some of the levels are pretty difficult, i still enjoyed playing it!
The soundtrack to the game is brilliant. bands such as Alkaline Trio and Kiss are featured and the songs played match the genre of the game.
