Turok Evolution (PS2) ... beginning of the game, we see our hero, Tal'Set, fighting his nemesis Captain Tobias Bruckner in 1886 Texas. During the battle, a rift between their world and the Lost Lands opens and Tal'Set is sucked into it. Tal'Set, injured and near death, is nursed back to health by the natives of the River Village, a colony in hiding from the Lost Land's greatest threat: the Lord Tyrannus and his reptilian hordes. Tal'Set becomes a reluctant participant in the brutal war that is raging in the Lost Land. Bent on a holy mission to purify the land through slaughter and misery, Tyrannus appoints a new general to his armies, and Tal'Set discovers to his horror that it is Bruckner, who was also swept into the Lost Lands through the rift.

... did not get off to a good start as there was next-to-no flexibility in the controls which meant that I spent a fair amount of the game getting to grips with the FPS side (keeping auto-aim turned off). During that time I had come across many shortcomings in the enemy AI: the likes of enemies taking cover behind objects but failing to adjust their position relative to yours; enemies being rather oblivious to weapon-fire, as uncovered in the shoddily-done stealth missions; and enemies getting stuck in places. Premium Review Turok Evolution (PS2): Bringing Back The Dinosaurs In Evolution (733 words)

Rating:

Please note that my review and rating does not take into account the multiplayer aspect of this game. While the Turok series might not be extinct, the fifth in the series, Turok: Evolution - released in 2002 - proved to be one of the nails in the coffin of Acclaim Entertainment, whom filed for bankruptcy in 2004. So poorly received was the game by American video game magazine Electronic Gaming Monthly that they named their annual memorial awards for the worst video games after the game's villain, Tobias Bruckner. It was during a fight between Tal'Set, leader of the Saquin Nation, and Captain Bruckner of the US Army around the time of the Indian Wars ...  Read the complete review

Despite a having a weak second game, the Turok series has been a long time favorite of mines. From its cool theme, to its amazing weapons and gameplay, i've loved it. As you can imagine, when Turok Evolution was announced, I was immediately interested. The first pics of the game looked simply amazing. Sadly, when the game was released last Sept, it was met with ...  Read the complete review

Science has been used by many civilizations as the means of going forward and improving life. Inventing, proving, discovering, advancing and exploring have always been the realms of science. Modern science can create computers that do millions and millions of calculations a second, generate faces from a bare skull, catch criminals and even make fridge lights come on. Modern science and archaeology has also proved with little doubt that dinosaurs and humans never co-existed and no one argues except those die-hard Jurassic Park fans. Acclaim also seems to disagree with science in the setting of their Turok series. Turok Evolution is the latest multi-platform ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Has Turok Evolved? (695 words)
by - written on 24/12/02 (Very useful, 371 readings)
Rating:

Turok is something of a legend as far as Nintendo 64 owners are concerned. So it now comes down to this new Turok game, on Gamecube, Xbox and PS2, to re-instate the power of the Dinosaur, can it do the job or will it become extinct before its time? Story ==== The premise of this new game is that our hero, Tal'Set, has been sent to a dimension of dinosaurs called the lost land and must find Tyrannus, who threatens to take over the place. Not exactly a new formula, but it worked for the previous games, so there’s no need to change it here. You start the adventure armed with a nifty bow and arrow, and get to pick up all manner of weapons from ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Turok Evolution (PS2): Evolved or stuck in the past (630 words)
by - written on 12/09/02 (Very useful, 258 readings)

In the golden days of the Nintendo64 Turok roared to the console with great success. The actual idea and concept of the game is based on a lossley packed action comic. Surrounding the current situation, the developers and producers. They were stuck and didn't know which genre. After much debate the game was made into a quality FPS (First Person Shooter). Turok actually awoke the FPS in me as I was so used to some older and less entertaining titles such as doom. Turok is unique to all other titles in it's genre in that dinosaurs are the main feature and tackle of the game. I had huge expectations of how the game would play and fortuneatly i was'nt dissapointed ...  Read the complete review
