You can pickup health, items and special items giving you special abilities for a certain period of time. The aim of the game is to kill your opponents and depending on the game type you have chosen you might have to capture a flag, get the most kills etc. Its an action packed game and when you die you regenerate again instantly. You have to be on your toes from start to finish. You can also play a two player game ag...more

Unreal Tournament (PS2): Unreal, Yes, it is, but why? (1221 words)

The first-person shooter is one of the great staples of computer gaming with the first example of the genre being Castle Wolfentsein. Since then, things have progressed a huge amount with big-hitters like Quake and Half-life spawning sequels, add-ons and mission packs across the whole console range and more notably the PC. Unreal is another of these big-hitters and is generally seen to be in the big three of first-person shooters, up there with Half-life and Quake. Now Unreal has followed suit with the other two and is now out on the PS2 in it’s best version yet. Now, Quake and Unreal are more closely related than Half-life as they are set mainly in arenas, ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Really unreal!!! (606 words)

I have been an Unreal Tournament addict for about a year now. I am slowly getting over my addiction, but at one point I used to go home from work at lunchtime to play it!!! We also had after work "shoot em ups". I had played the good Quake before and teh awesome Half Life(get that game too!!! The first one is the best!!) but this is something different. So why is it so damn hot??? :- 1. Variety of Games. There are 5 games - Deathmatch, Domination, Capture the Flag, Assault, and Champion. 2. Deatmatch - the first game. This starts with a simple deathmatch (i.e. you against 1 payer, 1st to 10 kills wins) and gets harder and ...  Read the complete review

Well i know this game has been reviewed to death (well it has in the other UT section :P) but i just love the Unreal series so here goes, The advantages - : Amazing graphics that run on just about any PC you can get your hands on nowadays. : Great sound, even for todays standards. : Game-play ...Well what can i say... THIS GAME RULES! It was the first FPS (first person shooter) to grasp the concept of dodging, and it turned out great, increasing the monuverbility of the player drematically and enableing more pro tricks to be forfomred ingame (when mastered anyway ;)). : Online gaming, this game was MADE for online gaming! And ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review As Un-PC As It Is Unreal (259 words)
by - written on 22/04/09 (Useful, 50 readings)
Rating:

Whilst the PS2 Analogue Control did the job, I friggin loathed having an action mapped to the L3 and R3 buttons - in particular the auto-center for the former. The game is USB keyboard and mouse compatible, and would have allowed me to avoid this. There are several characters to pick from, with there being as many to unlock. Not that they make a real difference though. Also, some of them share voice samples. The tournament format does not allow for available matches to be played at a lower difficulty level should the going get tough (or at a higher level when the going is not tough enough). Some (useless) stats beyond number of victorious matches would have ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Unreal Tournament (PS2): Pretty Poohey (328 words)
by - written on 23/08/01 (Useful, 67 readings)
Rating:

Unreal Tournament is undoubtedly one of the best games I have played on the PC, and when it came to the Playstation 2 I was somewhat dubious so I didn't want to get it. Instead I hatched a cunning plan to get my friend to buy it for me. I spent most of the week giving him subtle hints as to how wicked it was (on PC), so eventually he got it, played it and lent it to me. As I had feared however, it really didn't match up to its PC counterpart. There seem to be fewer missions in the campaign thingy, and the game in general is somewhat poohey. Although it is kind of fun to kick some serious BUTT in the multiplier slugfest option, as long as ...  Read the complete review
