Advantages: Great team concept

Disadvantages: None

I have been an Unreal Tournament addict for about a year now. I am slowly getting over my addiction, but at one point I used to go home from work at lunchtime to play it!!! We also had after work "shoot em ups".

I had played the good Quake before and teh awesome Half Life(get that game too!!! The first one is the best!!) but this is something different.

So why is it so damn hot??? :-

1. Variety of Games. There are 5 games - Deathmatch, Domination, Capture the Flag, Assault, and Champion.

2. Deatmatch - the first game. This starts with a simple deathmatch (i.e. you against 1 payer, 1st to 10 kills wins) and gets harder and more complicated with more opponents. After completing the 1st 3 or 4 games out of 10 of each type the game allows you to the next type of game. In order these are :-

3. Domination - this comprises of three floating flags within each dungeon. Each team has a colour, and you run over a flag to turn it your teams colour. When an opponent runs over the flag it turns to the colour of the opposing team. Your points total runs up for the length of time you have a symbol your colour, and the first team to a certain number of points wins. Once you have completed a certain number of Dominations you become eligable to play :-

4. Capture the flag - There are 2 teams. each witha base and a flag in it. Each team must penetrate the opposing teams base run over their flag to grab it, and then run back to your base and deposit the opposing teams flag. First team to get 3 flags wins. You control your team mates telling them to defend or attack (I generally prefer attacking, but sometimes it is good to get a snipers rifle and sit back and blow peoples heads off with it - awesome!!).Once you have completed a certain number of Capture the Flags you become eligable to play :-

5. Assault. Again there are 2 teams - one defending team and another attacking. The attacking team receives a set of
instructions to carry out, usually getting to a strategic target or disabling a weapon, and the defending team has a time limit in which prevent them completeing their objective. Once the attacking team is succesful, the roles are reversed, and the time in which the base was conquered the becomes the time the opposing team has to attack your base. This is an excellent concept, although some of the games are a little confusing (especially the underwater one!!)

6. The final level is Champion which is very difficult. These are very difficult scenarios where every man is for himself and the winner is the first to a certain number of kills. I have got the the very last level, but that is impossibly difficult!!! And it took a lot of practise to get to that standard

Generally the weapon selection is good (half life weapons are admittedly better) and each weapon has 2 fire modes which took me a while to figure out, but makes the game much easier!!

The best bit is the different team scenarios, which put it at a different level to mosty shoot em ups. If you get bored of just running around killing everything in sight, try this game - it is much more strategic, but doesn't lose the blood and gore. The graphics are cool too - very high quality.

The game is now available for about 10-15 quid- I strongly recommend it!!

The computer AI is the best thing about this game - excellent and human like opponents that can work in teams with or without you, great fun and especially good in single player for those who have no friends. Just dont buy it for the storyline :) Steve

Good opinion. This is probably the best game of this type I've played, unless you want a good storyline of course :)
