... X-Squad's control scheme makes use of both analog sticks on the Dual Shock 2, with the left stick as forward/backward/strafe and the right stick to look around - similar to using a mouse on the PC. Although it feels a bit quirky at first, you'll quickly get the hang of it after playing the first stage. There are several checkpoints in each level where you will restart if you die, and you can save your progress after you've cleared each stage. You gain points after each stage based on your remaining health...more

IMPORT REVIEW: X-Squad (or X-Fire in Japan) for the PlayStation 2 is the first original title developed by the Japanese team of Square/Electronic Arts, which has previously been limited to only releasing EA's US titles in the overseas market. The game is a third-person shooter where you take the role of a special forces leader and lead a group of soldiers in the investigation of a town that's been struck by a mysterious virus following a meteor shower. The game takes advantage of the PS2's graphical capabilities by using effects like motion blur, multiple lighting, smoke/explosion effects, and other similar eye candy effects. X-Squad runs smoothly at a ...  Read the complete review

It's me isn't it? I'm the one at fault. That's the only explanation. I mean, how likely is it that I'm the one who's right and the entire games industry is wrong? OK then, glad we've sorted that out. I'm clearly wrong to want variety of gameplay. I'm wrong to want games that make me think. I'm wrong to want strong replay appeal. All I should do is applaud superb graphics and sound whilst keeping my brain in neutral. In that case, X Squad is one of many superb Playstation 2 games. X Squad is a third person shooter. Its most intriguing feature is that you get to control a four-person squad. As well ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review X-Squad (PS2): X-Squad is NOT Syphon Filter (274 words)

Rating:

X-Squad is a very good PS2 launch title, and EA should be congratulated on creating something other than their dull sports games that gain an just gain an extra polygon or two every year. The graphics are quite good (although nothing spectacular) and the squad team element, although annoying at times, is something unseen in PSOne 3rd-person shooters. There is a large selection of weapons, and these can be bought before each mission (although the characters always seem to be underground on their own, so how do they get to the shops?) The sound, if repetitive, is good enough and all-in-all, EA have produced a game that falls between Average and Very Good. ...  Read the complete review

Decent soundtrack if you like hip hop. It's short as well. The rest of the game is full of things that are either sluggish, broken or flat-out poor.

Good voice acting, new story dialogue system broken, very linear, poor graphics, repetitive and short

A great wrestling game with a unique sense of style. Cheap difficulty and a lack of online or a create-a-wrestler mode drags it down.
