WALL-E (PS3) ... though Pixar s WALL-E might be (and in fact one of my favourite Pixar films), that doesn t mean I m going to go easy on this dire videogame adaptation, which barely passes the grade as a game for undemanding children, let alone as one for more discerning adults. I did not expect something difficult nor something overwhelmingly engaging, but I figured that making a fun game about the loveable robot would not be so hard. I have either lost my mind, or WALL-E the game has overshot its target audience by a huge degree, because I found this game far more difficult than I ever expected it to be, and I didn t even make it to the end of the game. Saints Row 2 (PS3) ... enjoyed the first Saints Row game but was never enamoured with it enough to think of it as anything more than a GTA clone. Saints Row 2 to a degree attempts to do away with this myth by establishing its own brand identity, and although rough around the edges, it does succeed to an extent. I ll give credit where credit is due: while the premise is the same as the first game, they have really taken it in another direction with regard to non-linearity and ease of use. This game has a far more open-ended bent to it than the first game, beginning with allowing you to customise the appearance of your character (I used a guide online to make mine look like The Joker). UFC 2009: Undisputed (PS3) ... ll start this review by saying that I m a fan of UFC; it s a nice alternative to wrestling because it s actually REAL, and doesn t have the same ridiculous soap opera-esque storylines. It s just about the fighting (admittedly with a lot of build-up), and for those that don t know a lot about UFC or MMA (mixed martial arts) in general, this game is a fine place to start, as it melds the technicality of the sport with a fun style of gameplay. A UFC fight takes place in an 8-sided cage called the Octogan, where two fighters face off.
