AC4 is about Edward Kenway, a man who left his wife in England to earn money as a privateer in the West-Indies, except his life turns around when he runs into a member of the Assassins order and becomes a pirate... AC4 is definitely better then AC3 it's predecessor. AC3 was set in Boston and New York in which every street seemed like the last one and it was all joined up by loading screens. It is more adventurous than AC3 and has a better theme in my opinion as there are many different locations and they each seem a lot different so every time you explore them it's a fresh new surrounding and the surroundings are more exotic looking(which in my opinion is a lot better looking)which keeps you engaged a lot easier. And yet despite its obvious improvements and drastic changes mixed in with more exploration and ways to earn money, I find the game play tiring after a while and frankly boring.
The combat is smooth and good-looking with different buttons reacting in different ways. Like circle throwing the enemy,l square killing him and x disarming or wounding him, while triangle uses your selected tool on him e.g. a pistol. The stealth is very good as well, with many different ways to take out your opponents- you can do it from bushes or haystacks to air assassinating off roofs. Or of course you could put them to sleep or make them go berserk with a blowpipe so they attack anyone around them. And yet despite this, the repeating fighting animations and the puzzle-like stealth can get tiring and repetitive. For example constantly running from bush to bush while running assassinating enemies. Although the different combinations of troops like gunners which stand above you on high towers can make it harder and more fun to infiltrate an enemy camp.
Saying all of this though AC4 has a ton more exploration and much smoother naval combat with extra naval weapons like mortars, where you lead the shot from afar and fire barrels in which you can drop behind the ship and shoot at them to make them explode. It's ocean simulator is also amazing! It looks great. The story isn't too strong but the change of your character as he progresses is interesting and the other characters are quite interesting as well. This game though has many different upgrades you can get, not just with money or loot, but by hunting. The rewards are often satisfying and the way to get them is fun in the process e.g. infiltrating an enemy camp with stealth to get the loot within the warehouse. It's quite fun, but like I said before can get tiring. But with all the different things, even underwater exploration, you should keep busy with this unique, non-linear game in which there are so many places to explore and things to do and collectibles to collect.
