Going for gold (Beijing 2008 (PS3))

Advantages: fun in multiplayer Disadvantages: hurts the hands, bit repetitive The Olympics, the greatest competition for amateur sports stars, the pinnacle of their careers, unfortunately the same cannot be said for the game. In the heat of the Olympics i decided it would be great fun to purchase this game, feeling up for the challenge and aware of button mashing fun i could have after owning Athens 2004. However i had no idea the pain that would ensue. After several hours play "waggling" the analogue stick gave me a large blister in the middle of my palm, painful for many days it hindered my gold medal quest! I battled on through the pain and did find the game was reasonable, although it hadn't really moved on from Athens except the inclusion of more events, some of which are easy others harder. The graphics are fairly decent and the gameplay, commentary and crowd reaction do make it feel like an Olympic event in your front room. The career or "Olympic games" mode was a slight let down, the inclusion of game over slightly ruined it however after mastering the events this should never happen. 2 player is a good laugh especially with events against each other such as running cycling, the individual ones are a bit slower and more strenuous. Overall a good game and one you can flick back to even couple of months for a couple of hours of fun competitiveness that will harden your hands! and when you first get it don't worry the pain does subside just battle through!! Summary: a good buy as a reminder of the olympic games 2008 |
