Advantages: Varied gameplay both on and offline
Disadvantages: Dreaded quick-time-events
First off, I'm not a fan of first-person shooters, but being a fan of Bond and cheap Internet prices I decided to take a chance on this one, and am pleasantly surprised with what I've got for just a tenner.
It may be called Quantum of Solace - suggesting you're in for an average movie tie-in - but you are getting two movie tie-ins, with a huge chunk of the relatively short single player mode following events (or rather snippets of and bits added for game's sake) of Casino Royale.
While short though, single player is excellently varied and paced, in both level design, length and how to beat them. Taking control of Bond with full Daniel Craig likeness and voice, both first and third person (when taking cover) gameplay integrate seamlessly when either in gunfights or taking the stealthy approach.
While infrequent, QoS unfortunately incorporates the dreaded quick-time-event into (of all places) 'boss' battles, where instead of taking on an end of level boss, you sit through a scripted battle where you are required to press certain buttons at certain times. Not fun; not wanted thank you.
Its online multiplayer brings about an entirely different gaming experience, and again it is pleasantly varied with several game modes. As I mentioned earlier, I'm not a fan of the fps and so can't compare its online to the likes of Call of Duty 4 (whose engine is used for this game incidentally).
Modes include Bond Vs, where players take it in turns to be 007 trying to disarm bombs without being shot by everyone else; Bond Evasion, similar to above except whoever is Bond must escape the stage escorted by players as MI6 agents against players as the enemy trying to shoot him; and Golden Gun mode, where its every man for himself in a fight to nab the golden gun from each other to get as many kills with it as you can.
