Modern Warfare 2 continues the Modern Warfare series where the SAS attempts to stop a corrupt General from negotiating with terrorists and threatening the US from Russian invasion.
The story is pretty standard, and graphics are slightly improved, as well as the weapons being more vast and the backgrounds becoming more expansive, with an interesting campaign coupled with co-op that will lead to hours of fun with friends and in a solo environment.
However, Modern Warfare 2 excels best at is Call of Duty's forte, multiplayer. More maps have been added and range from small maps where cover and blind-spots are key, to large maps with large levels of cover and different debris to find strategic ways of attacking your enemy.
Multiplayer is consistent and largely pleasant, with a leveling system borrowed from the previous Modern Warfare title. Weapons can be zany (like machine guns) or fairly standard like AK47's and M4A1's. It can be unpleasant dealing with teenagers and children whilst experiencing multiplayer, but I would advise muting them.
Modern Warfare 2 is usually cheap to find now, with several special offers and deal leading to it becoming as cheap as £6 at some places. I would recommend picking it up from a game shop, Amazon or eBay, as this will allow for the cheapest purchase.
To conclude, Modern Warfare 2 is probably a good purchase, and I would recommend this title to any fan of the series or any FPS shooter fan, as they will have a pleasant experience playing this wonderful FPS game, which will not disappoint.
2009 and with it brings the 6th installement of the Call of Duty series. Some say this is the most controversial game, but the story is intense and the action even better.
Story: This game follows on straight from Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare and with the fallout at the end of that game; the Russians attempt at blowing up America with nuclear weapons. As well as there ultranationalists support of Khaled Al-Asad, a middle eastern country ruler with strong anti-western views, who was killed in the previous game. Imran Zakheav is declared a hero, after his ultranationalists terrorist group taken control of Russia. With relations strained between Russia and America, a war is on its way. Zakheav righthand man, Vladimir Makarov, is set on avenging the death of Zakheav. His acts of terrorism have to be stopped.
Afghanistan and playing as Private First Class Allen of the US Rangers, your ability impresses Lieutenant General Shepherd. He recruits you to an elite counter-terrorist unit, Taskforce 141. You are sent undercover for the CIA to Russia and alongside Makarov to take part in a terrorist attack. However Makarov knows you're an American soldier and pins the terrorist attack on you and America. With Russia outraged by this act of terrorism, Russia start an invasion on America and with it, a war that you battle on for the sake of your fellow man.
Alongside this battle to defend America, other members of elite Taskforce 141, including 'Soap' MacTavish, who is now a Captain, are on the mission to search for evidence that Makarov was the mastermind behind the terrorist attack and not America. With Private Allen dead, they have to dig deeper and have intelligence that suggests a contact of Makarovs lives in a favela in Rio de Janiero, Brazil. A weapons collector by the name of Rojas gives them information that can help. As Sergeant 'Roach' Sanderson, we learn that Makarovs worst enemy, known as prisoner 627, is holed up in a Russian gulag. Taskforce 141 assault the prison to locate the prisoner and receive a shock as to who he is. With him in tow, it's a race against time to stop the Russian invasion. Using a ballistic missile, prisoner 627 sets of a nuclear warhead in the upper atmosphere, deliberately destroying the international space station and wiping out all electrical equipment due to the electronic pulse. Now its not about laser targets, now its down to old fashion free aiming. With the battle on, it's time to holster up and wait for a story that leaves you guessing until the very end. This is going to be ride, so be prepared for anything and everything.
Visuals: With every Call of Duty game, the graphics just get better and better. The detail of the Whitehouse, the cool burger restaurant and petrol station your based at, even down to the ordinary townhouses. It really does make you feel your fighting a real war. The favelas are really exciting to play at, with the chickens running about and the guys running about on the roofs. Early on in the game you infiltrate a Russian airbase up in the mountains. All around you is snow covered cliffs. The environment created all through this game adds to the excitement. When all the electronic devices become obsolete, everything becomes literally and figuratively darker. The sense of apprehension in the air is visible for all to see. Graphics play a huge part in today's games and Treyarch really know how to make a beautiful game.
Audio: With a big game, you need a big name behind the music. None other than the great Hans Zimmer produced the main theme to MW2 and you can tell. With a movie like feel to it, it really gets you going in preparation for what you are about to take part in. The rest of the soundtrack is by Lorne Balfe and creates some truly remarkable music that really grabs the emotion you are feeling at that moment in the game. There are some outstanding tracks like the Whitehouse battle. The music for this level really is intense on many levels. Really does make you feel the pressure of the battle. Another standout track is Code of Conduct, which is from the mission in the bone yard. It has that slow quiet build up of where you know and can feel that apprehension. It really does make you understand that its you alone against loads of men, but this is the battle you need to win. The highlight of the whole soundtrack is a track called Coup de Grace. This music alone is so beautifully sad but hand in hand with the part of the game its in. Its haunting and just with the visuals/story makes you feel hollow inside. I have the last two tracks I've mentioned on my iPod. This soundtrack is amazing and just works so well to create this masterpiece of a game.
Gameplay: The game starts and sets the scene really well. With the great cut scenes and the ridiculously brilliant voice acting again, you understand straight what this game has in store for you. This isn't going to be easy, but then when is a 'great' game ever easy. The combat is still fantastic and gets you right involved with enemy. The story sends you to different countries, which are beautifully represented and with the fantastic story, you think this game can't get any better. Wrong. Yes, you could argue same old Call of Duty first person shooter but different story etc. But it isn't. Everything in this game has improved from there last game (World at War). Now I really enjoyed that game and would have been happy to see similar engine and everything else in MW2. But they knew that could make an even better game this time and they did. The twists in the storyline, the crazy gun battles that you take part in. They ramped up the excitement levels to such an immense level and yet at the same time of all the blood spill, this game doesn't lose its heart. The guns are bigger, better and more inline with todays' weapons, the graphics are stunning, the soundtrack adding another level to the experience. But you still fell that emotion when your fighting side by side your comrades. No one is left behind ever. Its kept its core and grown, big time.
There are collectibles in this game in the form of laptops that can be found multiple times on each level.
Controversy: If you didn't know, back when MW2 came out, a lot of controversy surrounded it. This was due too the level when, as Private Allen undercover, you take part in a terrorist attack on a Russian airport killing many innocent people. Firstly, there is an option at the beginning of the level where you can skip the mission if you don't wish to play. I have played through the level multiple times now but I have never fired a bullet until the fight at the end with the police. That's just me, but having played through the level I do not see the issue and the controversy. This is a game and not real life. You are not physically there and shooting real life innocent people. I know this is getting close to the 'violent video games should be banned' debate, so I'll stop now before I bore people and this is about a game and not politics.
Conclusion: This review is written from the perspective of the single player campaign only.
With every Call of Duty game, it gets bigger and better. With returning characters and again top notch voice acting, mixed in with the superb graphics, blockbuster soundtrack, this game will blow your mind. From, Afghanistan, Russia, Brazil, America and even a quick view of space, you find that war doesn't just happen on the front-line. You feel that buzz and adrenaline rush as you go in to battle and wonder where your heading next. I'm not going to include spoilers as I want players to feel what I felt when I first played through it. There are several moments, especially one in particular, that really hit you. It feels wrong with what happens. It feels like it is truly happening to a friend. Now to someone who has played this game, they will understand what I'm talking about. It really does leave you wondering why they did this and yet at the same time, it shows a more realistic view of war and terrorism. There has only been one other game that has made me empty so to speak. But after one of the missions, you really feel it and with that music, its really hard to take. Even today I still get that hair on the back of the neck stand up feeling. It really is so hard to stomach. This game has twists to a fantastic story. Play it, otherwise you will never know what truly happens, nor what the future holds.
Call of duty modern warfare 2 is the sequel to the extremely successful Call of duty modern warfare. With high expectations on most fans of the franchise the game does deliver something fresh to gamers that they can enjoy.
The single player is like all call of duty games, good, sometimes dull but some brilliant moments which revolutionise certain aspects of gaming. In MW2 as it is the sequel it is a continuation of the previous story but better in the abilities of the player. Some of the missions are very well designed making it a new challenge to gamers and giving them an unknown experience of the army/marines such as in the mission when you have to infiltrate this building/base in the middle of the sea.
But where most call of duty games excel is in the multiplayer. Again a very addictive multiplayer has been created which enables the user to play for days on end individually or with friends. The rank system is again used well giving it the addictive edge and encouraging the players to prestige. The majority of maps are very good and before you know it you have sussed out all the hotspots.
However the only downside with this game is that the multiplayer is just an updated version of modern warfare making it repetitive. The game engine itself is literally identical with minimum new features added to the table.
Overall a very good game but the franchise would maybe benefit by not making annual games and instead make a better quality product.
Modern Warfare 2 is a sequal to the massively successful first ps3/xbox 360 game by the same title. Centred around fictional events world wide, you take on anti terrorism missions around the globe as part of teams of crack soldiers.
The gameplay is best described as mad. The call of duty games are now famous for putting you in the centre of conflicts with impressive set pieces and explosions whilst enemies fight you on all sides. The controls are typical of most shooter games but MW2 is more responsive and smoother than most which is why it is widely regarded as one of the best shooters available.
The online multiplayer is the big draw of the Call of Duty franchise as many millions of people world wide play together to level up and better their scores. Game modes online include free-for-all's and team based game modes such as 'Demolition' where each team attempts to bomb targets on the map whilst the opposition try to prevent this. These different game modes keep the online mode fresh and fun meaning the longevity of this game can go on years.
Despite this game being released in 2009 it is still amongst the best and online it is very well subscribed and will remain so until Modern Warfare 3 in late 2011.
Without Treyarch, I do not believe the Call of Duty games are as good, and Infinity Ward have proved this here when creating Modern Warfare 2. I think this game has just been a failed attempt to beat COD WAW and their previous, brilliantly made COD Modern Warfare.
The game is not all that bad, however. The online and multi player game play is far better than any Call of Duty so far. There are great graphics in this game (if you have a high definition TV too) and this is great. It is brilliant to be able to see every minute detail when you are playing, and it allows you to spot that person you just wouldn't have spotted before. Also, the gameplay has improved a great deal. There is a whole host of new, realistic guns and the attachments, and way they are unlocked is good too. However, the 2 greatest new things about Modern Warfare 2 are the customizable Killstreak reward system and the Title and Emblem. The customizable killstreaks is great because it allows for a lot more variation in the online gameplay and means not everyone has the same kill streak rewards on. Also, they have made a variety of brand new kill streaks which make the game more fun, the main one being the tactical nuke. After getting 25 consecutive kills, the player can call in the nuke and end the game with a win for their team and 6 extra kills from killing all of the enemies. The great thing is, not matter if the opposing team are 1 point away from winning, if a nuke is called, your team will win! The titles and emblems are also great. You unlock them when you complete challenges and they are just there to be shown off, to prove to other people that you have completed a certain challenge and to see who has the best titles and emblems. This is great because it means you are actually gaining something more than Experience Points when you complete challenges. Infinity ward have kept the prestige system from other Call of Duty games which allows you to get to the maximum level, but start again. This may not seem like a good idea, but you get a fancy prestige emblem to show off to your friends and people on the leaderboards that you are a much higher level and therefore better player. Unfortunately though, Infinity Ward felt that gaining the next level of prestige was too easy and so increased the maximum level to 70 and I found it very hard to level up and this made the game very boring.
The actual feature which made me feel that Modern Warfare 2 was just trying to beat World at War was the brand new Special Operations (or spec ops) mode. I feel that Infinity Ward spent too much time trying to make this and their multi player so great, that they forgot about campaign. The campaign was not bad, but it was fairly average. Nothing special happened and it was not very exciting and was actually very hard to complete, not through difficulty but boredom. The Special Ops mode however, is actually pretty good. There are many bonus missions in which you get a chance to earn a maximum of 3 stars. You have to have a certain amount of stars to unlock the next tier of levels and this continues. There is a maximum of 69 stars and getting all of them is very hard. However, after playing for a long time, my friend and I managed to get around 50. At this stage, the Special Ops mode also becomes very boring and you will then struggle to find a reason to put this disc into your Playstation 3.
Modern Warfare 2 or MW2 is a very good game in my opinion, I know people have given it slack for the quality of graphics and the lack of authentic gameplay but this game is just absoluletly sublime. MW2 is brilliant for playing with mates or on your own, as it never becomes boring as I felt World at War did become boring playing on your own after some time, although MW2 does not feel this way.
The biggest and best like for me about Modern Warfare 2 is quickscoping, it is amazing and a easy skill to master. This for me is what made MW2 so special to so many people and why even now after the release of Call of Duty Black Ops it is still played across the world. The killstreaks I think are more affective and actually added to your killstreak unlike Black Ops. This helps contribute to trying to get the big prize of the game, a nuke. The campaign is great and I think is a good way of improving a range of skills including sniping, use of pistols and sharp shooting. The storyline is also good and keeps players guessing the plots Infinity Ward have produced.
Putting the graphics into comparison with Black Ops they are not the best they could but I think the weapons and perks make up for that. The Gameplay is however is not authetic enough and things such as 360`s are not likely in a real war scenario.
I think this game is brilliant for playing with firends, although the authenticity of the game is a real killer.
As many of you already know Modern Warfare 2 has been out for quite some time but I only bought it last month so I want to share my own opinions/views on it.
Modern Warfare 2 was created by Activision and was released in November 2009. The game was meant to be based on the original Modern Warfare with of course new added features. Fans expected a great game after the success of Modern Warfare and they were not to be disappointed as i believe Modern Warfare 2 met the expectations. The game play is smooth and is not jerky which is how I found Black Ops to be. The campaign like all Call of Duty's was very short but of course multi player can be addicting and you could find yourself playing it up until the release of the next Call of Duty. The graphics of the game are much better than the previous games and the sound features are great, each gun has a noticeable different sound and just by the sound of it you can tell what gun it is! The button layout is customisable, you cant change it yourself but there are 4 settings to chose from. Each of these settings basically just change a few buttons or make pushing the analogue stick up to cause your character to go down. Accuracy was also added to the leader boards so now many people began to actually aim instead of "spraying" (hip firing) their guns.
One of the key features Activision introduced in the game was the customisable kill streaks. Kill streaks could not be changed in previous Call of Duty's which meant that everyone had to use the exact same ones. There are 14 kill streaks to chose from each requiring different amounts of kill streaks to obtain. The uav is still in the game at a 3 kill streak but they also have a counter uav obtainable after a 4 kill streak. Also obtainable at a 4 kill streak is the care package, this is a package which drops from the sky and can have any kill streak or ammo in it but not the nuke. The predator missile requires 5 kills and is basically a controllable missile from above. An Air strike can be gained with a 6 kill streak. Air strikes were in Modern Warfare you only needed 5 kills to obtain one. At 7 kills you can obtain a Harrier Strike or an Attack Helicopter. The harrier strike is like a small air strike followed by a harrier which hovers above and shoots at people. The Attack Helicopter just comes in and lasts longer than a Harrier, it is more flexible therefore kills more people with its guns than the Harrier does. You can gain an Emergency Air Drop once you get 8 kills. This is just a plane which drops 4 care packages. With a 9 kill streak you can get a Pavelow which is more or less an advanced Attack Helicopter which has a lot more armour. The Stealth Bomber is also gained with a 9 kill streak. This is one of my favourites even though its not that good. It does an air strike in one line across the whole length of the map and is undetectable by enemies. The Chopper Gunner and AC130 are obtainable at an 11 kill streak. The Chopper gunner an Attack helicopter you can control but has the ability to evade one missile trying to shoot it down. This is a kill streak used a lot and is in my opinion very overpowered. The AC130 is a plane high in the sky which for 45 seconds you control and can shoot missiles and fire guns. Now finally onto the Nuke. The almighty Nuke Is gained with a 25 kill streak and completely ends to game, you call it in, a 10 seconds timer starts then it kills everyone and your team automatically wins.
Another one of the key features of Modern Warfare 2 was the introduction of "Pro Perks". Once you get a certain amount of kills/a certain amount of something related to the perk it turns into a pro perk. These Pro Perks have more advantages than normal perks. For example, scavenger pro is obtained when you resupply a certain amount of time from corpses, (Scavenger is a perk which lets you gain ammo by walking over corpses). As a result of these pro perks, a new form of playing has emerged known as Quick Scoping. It has taken over No scoping as quick scoping takes a certain level of skill. Quick Scoping is basically scoping in fast with your sniper and shooting at an enemy before the cross-hair appears or as soon as it appears. It was made possible by the slight of hand perk. The pro version of the perk is faster zoom in time.
Like all Call of Duty's there's always one annoyingly overpowered and overused weapon isn't there? In Modern Warfare 2 the overpowered weapon has to be the ump45. Its a sub machine gun with great accuracy and great power. It is used often as a "rusher" class which is a class made up of lightweight (makes you run faster), marathon (unlimited sprint) and usually ninja (undetectable by Heart Beat sensors). The Ump45 can get highly annoying as in many cases its the gun which is going to kill you almost 75% of the time. Although they released the most awesome weapon ever! I mean come on, a riot shield?! How much more epic could it get. Riot Shielding as its commonly known is a great way to have fun in the game if your not a serious player.
Host Migration was introduced to Modern Warfare 2. What a great feature as didn't you just hate when you were doing really good in a game in previous Call of Duty's and then suddenly the host ends and the game ends! Host Migration basically just picks a new host when one leaves. Even though this works most of the time it is not uncommon for it to fail leaving you very frustrated.
Activision did churn out a few map packs but they were decently priced. Each costing around £6-£8. There were some Modern Warfare maps included in these map packs as the Modern Warfare maps were just excellent. Overall i feel the game is fantastic and that its definetely good value for money.
Thats about all for my review, I could babble on for countless pages on absolutely everything but that wouldn't be enjoyable now would it? I suggest you look on Youtube for a better idea but be warned Modern Warfare 3 is out in November so you might want to just wait till that.
This review is on ciao under the username Connor131.
My personal review for Modern Warfare 2 PS3
When I bought this game the first thing i thought was something like, O-M-G! I had never before experienced such an advanced first person shooter game before in my life. It was like something out of a dream. The game is so realistic, more realistic than modern warfare, the original MW. The main headline of the game is the multiplayer feature. You rank up as you play online , with your friends, or just with other gamers. As you level up you unlock new titles and emblems, and new , better guns. I like the feature where you can quickscope, and now theres all sorts of tricks you can do, from 360 no scopes accross maps to barrel rolls trick shots. Its just one heck of an amazing multiplayer experience. You can also team up with a friends and play special ops, where you have a selective of missions which need to be completed, in order to earn stars and trophies. You can also play this special ops solo mode, or with two ps3 remotes. It again is fun, but hard as you progress. Since ive bought the game ive clocked the story mode about 10 times, its just so addictive when theres nothing else to do. Its basically team based missions, from actually you shooting on the ground, or you shooting from helicopters in the sky!
Its one beast of a game, definitely recommended. Beware though, you just simply cannot stop playing sometimes! :P
You can currently buy it from amazon for: £17.99
I've never really been a big fan of Call of Duty, but the Modern Warfare series have converted me. Although games have to be good online we must not forget that they should be good offline. Modern Warfare 2 has a fantastic storyline, easy to understand yet also involves an aspect of confusion, as you play through the game as different characters. As oppose to other shooter games where you are told what you have to do, the game get progressively harder, to a point where you are left on your own to figure out what needs to be done. It's a good game for someone playing a first person shooter for the first time and I would definitely recommend it over Black Ops. The easy mode is easy, and provides a guide for you through the game, whereas the hard mode is exactly that; hard. It is challenging for even the most experienced of players. Now for the main point; online mode. Modern Warfare 2 allows you a variety of gameplay modes, from team deathmatch to domination to free for all. There is a game that will suit everyone. Work with your friends or even against them, to earn point's, new weapons and to level up. If your friends aren't online then don't worry, there are plenty of people around the world who'd be willing to play you. With new maps being constantly updated, it is very unlikely that you will get bored of the game. I have been following the Modern Warfare series and can strongly say that it has one of the best story-lines.
I got this game the first day it came out, being a big fan of the COD series. The first thing I did was complete campaign. The graphics are superb and the smooth texture detail hit me at once. The variety of different guns and attachments that I cam across on campaign was impressive, from rocket launchers to pistols, snipers to machine guns. I completed the campaign the first day. It's not too challenging if the difficulty level is below Intermediate, I play Intermediate and it was quite easy. The AI are smart and the level where you climb up a cliff with ice pickers is amazing. Lot's of action through campaign with epic moments in a variety of locations set in real places around the world. Online is amazing, featuring 70 levels to go up, and 10 levels of prestige. Lot's of modern maps and the unlockables keep you addicted. Realistic gameplay and great to play with friends or on your own, this game is a must get for FPS fans and COD fans. If you havn't already bought it, go out and get yourself a copy!
As a fan of the Call of Duty series, modern warefare two had a lot to live up to with the blockbuster that was Call of Duty modern warefare and of course Call of Duty World at war. But this definately achieves that, this really is every gamers delight.
But looking in closer detail at the game, there are a few flaws on the game. As the online multiplayer is liked all over the world, the game needs to be able to keep players hooked and it does that, but the game can get very annoying when players exploit glitches. Yes, glitches the players that know how to do them its brilliant, but if a player has just begun it can quickly become quite boring as nothing they do seems to work.
Another problem i find as a big fan of call of duty modern warfare two is the fact the storyline is way too short. I mean yes you get fantastic levels, of gun conflict, but unfortunately infinity ward and activision it's just not long enough ! You really start getting into it, getting a hang of all the guns and thats it its over.
But never the less, the game will attract even the most unlikely people. It is most definately a game worth buying. No matter when you play it its brilliant, it seems you go on to play one game and the next thing you know youve been playing for hours.
So get your controllers, get modern warfare into your console and ill see you on there !!
The day the game was released and stores were open at midnight to sell them i was there waiting in the line to buy it.
This game has a lot of different game modes such as death death match, capture the flag and many more.
Weapons are unlocked by levels you may also add attachments to your gun which is a great option. To unlock attachments some challenges are need like to unlock the blue tiger skin for a specific weapon you will need to achieve 150 head shots.
The game also offers in game voice which is a great way to communicate with your team.
Tons of emblems and titles are to unlock each title or emblem requires something to be done. Example to have the white head with a sniper aim on it as a title you much kill to players both headshots with one bullet.
Having the option to modify your weapon is great like for sub machine guns you may unlock akimbo. What akimbo guns do is they let you carry to of the same weapon at the same time. You have way more firepower but less accuracy.
You can also have 3 different perks at the same time. What perks do is the guy you an advantage depending on which you chose. You could chose steady aim as a perk, this perk makes your weapons have less recoil. There are many and it would be too long to name them all.
when i first bought this game which was last year in november it was the game of the year with people getting excited with the content they saw in the trailer.
when the game did come out every one was running to get the game with the experience i can tell you some fatures the campaign has lot of different style there always going to be action and infinity ward saying to play the campaign for the begginner and helping them with the decision. the campaign does take a long time to complete. but by completeing you would have the chance to do special ops where you can earn throphy's and play with a team mate online.
the online is the big part of mw2 its the reason most people buy the game th eonline gameplay has relly changed from cod4 and 5 with more costomized stuff and with more guns. the graphic are the best ive seen on any game also with host migration it really help and you will be addictied. aswell as a great way to make friends and talk to them. you can show of your skills by looking at your kills to deaths and wins and it will take longer to finish the online as you have to unlock all titles and emblems.
with mw2 only 29.99 on amazon in the uk its really cheap for that game.
Is modern warfare 2 all its cracked up to be?
Well, after 3 years of waiting since the previous instalment the game hardly disappoints, there enough action in the single player game alone to keep anybody well and truly occupied. However this is almost a side dish compare to the banquet of multiplayer. Players, as before can use their experience points to unlock rewards and establish their true solider.
Infinity ward has developed the IW engine which claims to be a generation beyond the capabilities from the previous instalment (Call of duty 4) With this technology the game can emulate realistic fire, advanced weather effects and true world dynamic lighting.
The graphics are without doubt the finest that the playstation has to offer so far, wonderful textures and immense detail ensures that even on a television without 1080p support you may find it hard to be unimpressesed, however full HD is a must for any true gamer.
Unfortunately there are not enough multiplayer game modes to satisfy the needs of perhaps the most hardcore fan and along with the repetitive nature of some of the maps this is perhaps where the multiplayer mode needs tweaking.
Modern warfare 2 is undoubtedly one of the best games on the Playstation if not the best.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is the direct sequel to hit video-game Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare which personally I still play on a daily basis. When evaluating a sequel the first thing you should do is compare it to it's prequel which is what I have done; unfortunately I am not too impressed.
Let's start with the Multiplayer component: whilst it is astoundingly clear that Infinity Ward(the developer) tried to improve on the original by adding tons and tons of new things such as customizable killstreaks and new game modes, it has backfired and created a game that can go from awesome to awful in a matter of moments. This can get beyond frustrating at times and everyone I know agrees it is a good base game however with all of these additions it's just too much.
Compared to other multiplayer games of this console generation, it gets a 4/5 - good - but could be a lot, lot better.
Next I'll discuss the Co-operative aspect of the game in Spec Ops.
This was a completely new addition to the franchise and bases around you and a friend(or just you if you prefer) going around on totally un-related missions to single-player either defeating enemies or fighting for a common goal. Your performance is rated by a small but effective star system - completing a mission on easy earns you 1 star, medium difficulty earns you 2 stars and "veteran"(or in layman's terms hard) will reward you with a bountiful 3 stars. These stars all contribute towards unlocking further missions and eventually a trophy or achievement for earning all 69 stars. As far as variety is concerned there is plenty of it here as the gameplay is mixed up amongst general spraying of your machine-gun, stealthy sniping or even at one point being the gunner of an AC-130.
This game mode gets a rating of 3/5 from me for 2 simple reasons:
a) There is only limited replay value
b) Being the successor of Nazi Zombies from the previous game it's just a tad disappointing, as NZ was easily one of the best additions of World at War.
Anyway, I digress. Onto Single-Player.
Not too much to say about this really, other than the ending will really frustrate you. Not because it's hard, but because it's a cliffhanger that may never be completed. Before you reach the climax however there is plenty of variety and it will keep you occupied for 5 hours at least so from me it gets a rating of 4/5.
Overall this game is good but not great, worth picking up if you can find it on the cheap! 4/5
