Advantages: The anti-material rifle is cool.... I suppose
Disadvantages: Unoriginal, bland, pointless.
My friend told me not to buy this. Apparently WW2 stopped being cool as soon as Modern Warfare came out. I'd argue that point, but the guy is pretty persistant. What I didn't know at the time was that he was right.
You come out of Modern Warfare with expectations raised so high that it's hard for anything to live up to it. But with WaW, it's like they didn't even try.
A handful of new perks. Tanks. And the same old WW2 levels as every other game. Nice try, Activision.
(I didn't forget about the campaign mode, but there's no point in playing it. If you want to know about it, see CoD 1, 2 and 3 reviews)
So you start playing online, knowing that you have 50+ levels and countless challenges before you can say you've completed it, but the game is instantly uncomfortable.
The guns feel loose and clicky. The levels are boring (Do they HAVE to be circular? What happened to rooms with one way in and out?) And it's almost like everyone playing feels the same. There's no snap, crackle OR pop online.
Am I being harsh? That's for you to decide. But my copy's going back and I'm buying Modern Warfare 2.
Summary: Where did the magic go?

- 26/06/09 Your opinion backs my choice not to buy this game as it seems boring and just the same as previous ones. I feel your review could do with a lot more information on the game itself including gameplay, graphics, sound and everything else to give the reader a better portrayal of your opinion. |
