Advantages: Very Memorably written story and set action sequences, also Nazi Zombies!
Disadvantages: Graphics take a hit during 4-player SplitScreen
World at War is the latest in the Call of Duty series, now sporting a huge number of games, both cannon and spin off, this is most commonly seen as the 5th installment, following Modern Warfare. Although returning to the more familiar setting of World War 2, this game has kept many of the improvements made to the series in the last outing.
Rather than Modern Warfares Infinity Ward, Treyarch (creators of Call of Duty 3, among others) take the developer seat for this title and have clearly taken note of what can be done with the series. Alot of people put this game in a negative light when comparing to its predecessor, which in my opinion isn't entirely fair as in some aspects i think this one rivals it.
Graphics:
The single player campaign shows off some of the most beautiful scenes to date, easily on par with the majority of shooters currently out. Huge amounts of people storming about, vehicles striking fear into hardened soldiers. A new addition to the franchise is an increased amount of hostility, the idea was to aim this one at an older audience and show the true grit of war, so with that, decapitation and gore are quite a familiar sight now.
8/10
Sound:
With voice talent of a number of celebrities including 24's Keither Sutherland, you instantly become engrossed and feel part of a team, having orders yelled at you, as the roar of the battlefield has you wondering if attacking is really a good idea.
9/10
Story:
Its a war game, so you know what to expect to an extent, but it's presented in a brilliant way, and has the usual Call of Duty shine to it to keep you interested. Lots of enormous and memorable levels.
7/10
Multilayer/ Extra/ Re playability:
As Call of Duty 4 has shown, this series can set standards, World At War will have been out a year as of November, and both Call of Duties are in the Top 5 online games, very successful. Extras such as Perks, and create a class also return, with the new addition of Vehicles.
8/10
You can also play through the entire campaign in a number of modes, Co-Op split screen. Also 4 Player Split-Screen Versus mode makes a welcome return, a student favorite.
A strange and unexpected extra includes an unlockable 'Nazi Zombie' mode, an unlockable survival minigame, also Multi-player, pitting you against a seemingly infinite number of..well..Nazi Zombies, which is actually one of the best things i've played this generation of Consoles, highly addictive.
Trophies may also be of interest to a number of readers, this game has your standard, complete game on a number of settings, each level, as well as an extra bonus trophy per level for completing an objective in a certain way, usually making things more difficult, overall they're not too difficult, a nice challenge that definitely have you exploring everything the game has to offer.
Summary: Continues the greatness now expected of the Call of Duty franchise 9/10
