Dark Sector is a third person shooter where you play as the main character, Hayden Tenno, and elite black ops agent.
Gameplay: Dark Sectors plays out like most other third person shooters out nowadays such as Gears of War. Dark Sectors features a cover system to which is welcomed to the game but can sometimes be clunky. A good feature of Dark Sectors gameplay would be the glaive. This is the main weapon you will use throughout the game, and i have to say it is very entertaining to use. The glaive is a 3 pointed blade which you can throw at the enemy from a distance to cause decapitation of the enemy, and then automatically have it come directly back to you (Sort of like a boomerang) Throughout the game the effectiveness of the Glaive increaes as you gain extra powers such as directly controlling the blade, being able to make elemental explosions, and other upgrades such as turning invisible. Dark Sector also boasts a wide range of wepaonry throughtout the game also which can be brought from a dealer in the black market. The weapons vary from the regular pistol to powerful shotguns and automatic machineguns. The levels throughout Dark sector are quite basic in thier gameplay. While they can be fun, they get repetitive as they follow the scheme of kill enemys, progress, kill enemys, progress and then get to end. And if youure lucky youll get a boss battle or a basic puzzle.
Graphics: The graphics of Dark Sector are quite standard for a game on the Unreal Engine 3, and are quite good.
Story: The story of Dark Sector is basic, and if youre looking for a story driven game, go somewhere else because this game is not one. Whiles the story starts out strong, it seems to just go shallow after the first level. And if youre expecting the ending to be good, you're gonna be suprised because like the story its shallow and un-climactic.
Overall, id say that Dark Sector is a good game if you cna get it cheap like i could, but dont spend any more than £15 to get it, because its not worth it, and I found it to somewhat short.
Dark sector is a very good game with a great story, some funny moments and at times very chilling. Dark sector I must warn thought is very gory with heads and limbs flying every were. lets talk about the main gimmick: the glaive. The glaive is a very powerful weapon and it's the main thing you will use, being a sort of 4 pointed boomerang it never runs out of ammo or gets lost and it cant be dropped for another weapon so then you wish you could go back a few levels and pick it back up. You can throw it at enemies slicing them up like a loaf of bread or you can sneak up behind them and slit there throats. As you go on you unlock more powers for the glaive but I doubt you want to know them just yet as discovering what it can do is half the fun.
You can uses a pistol paired with the glaive or push the glaive into your body and pick up the standard ak-47 or shotgun. The aiming system is what you see in resident evil 4, a sort of over the shoulder with a laser attached to the gun for the cross hair. This works very well as it did in resident evil but pairing the pistol and glaive is a winning combo. Just for the
glaive I think you should get dark sector, as dark sector plays as resident evil with super powers.
I'd like to begin my review on Dark Sector with first of all saying, If you want a game with a good solid story, and a good ending, this is NOT the game for you, if you want a game thats pure action and mindless decapitating room after room, this however IS the game for you. The ending lasts about 20 seconds and explains nothing. the last boss can be hard for some but can be killed in 3 minutes with good accuracy. Now the ugly part is out the way let me just get to how much I liked the game for the following reasons.
The game's graphics and gameplay is very fun, new in one sense but it does borrow allot of its aspects from 2 other hot titles, yep thats right... Gears Of War & Resident Evil 4. The first for its gritty graphics and the colors, grains all feel the same! the sprint camera angle is identical to GOW and the aiming is exactly the same its like playing GOW on the PS3 with the Resident Evil 4's weapon upgrade function... the black market isn't very fun whatsoever really you need ALOT of Rubles to buy the good gear and you need to use it on weapons early on leaving you short and end up having to sell Frag Grenades 450 Rubles each and Weapon Upgrade briefcases for 2500 Rubles each to just say skim what's required to get the nessacery equipment, I recommend you make do with the first handgun until the hammer (revolver 6 shooter, amazing weapon) and then get the 40,000 rubles assault rifle when available , sell your old handgun if need be this is a ideal weapon for the last boss, Not g! oing to give anything away but spray fire works very well ;)
Anyhow getting back to how the game plays! The game runs smooth as anything, very nicely done and it works well, the shield, the invisibility function all work well and are well designated on the joypad to pull off fast and furious rolling and picking enemies off on the brink of death! for example standing there, shooting away, then go invisible run up and finish a enemy then when you might have bout 5 guys shooting at you, can easily just put up your shield, run for cover, or use it behind a wall and having somewhat a bit of cover and then rebounding the bullets, which by the way is a entitlement (Achievement!) in Dark Sector for rebounding bullets to kill a enemy, Another fun one is only using the glaive throughout a entire chapter, wow I enjoyed that... not.
The game can feel quite repetitive you feel like your controlling a boss throughout the game thats superior in every-way. However when you obtain the "Suit" I wont spoil anything, You think that you'll become a god when you equip it, but don't get carried away, you get to cover that ugly mug of a main character's face and can take a few extra bullets, thats it! a real let down. and this is what your character needs to kill the "Nemesis" again stealing from RE games!
The online mode is a mega let down, the 5,000 PTS online is a equivalent of the 10,000 "Seriously..." achievement and hehe, again like GOW! is a target for some that will drive them to insanity, due to the online mode being so bad! The guns don't seem to affect the "Infected" character whatsoever, your only hope is to gang up on the infected and punch him till he glows red to be "finished" with circle. The points are very stingy, I got bout 30/40 kills in the short time I played earlier and only got about 50 points.
The game plays good and is fun to play, no glitches of what I've seen, didn't crash or freeze, slow down whatsoever seems a flawless game in terms of how it plays. It just doesn't really feel like its a new game, I felt like I've played it before with it borrowing so many characteristics from GOW and RE4. If they had make it more of their own game than a fancy cover (Glaive) on top of a GOW graphics and RE4 gameplay it would've had me sold. the Ending was VERY bad, I would recommend RENTING this game, not buying!
A modern-day superhero saga, Dark Sector is a third-person shooter where players assume the role of the protagonist, Hayden Tenno who gains the ability to morph into dramatically different combat forms. Set in the crumbling infrastructure of a fictional Soviet-bloc country in the near future, the game features both single and multi-player action, with players working their way through a world where bio-weapons are no longer science experiments, but a hellish nightmare let loose on an unsuspecting populace.
