A very dark and creepy game but worth it if you have the patience to play

Dark souls is a action roleplaying game that has been developed by a Japanese games company Namco Bandi Games. It has been released on both platforms the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3.

Dark souls is the spiral successor to game called Demon Souls that was exclusive to the Playstation 3. Demon Souls has been renown for being a very difficult game to play. Dark souls follows in the way with very difficult gameplay. Along with difficult gameplay comes the fact whilst playing Dark Souls you can die a lot in fact its one of the trademarks of playing Dark Souls. In fact the official website for Dark Souls is called www.preparetodie.com

      Pros and Cons

      Challenging gameplay
      Good characters
Lots of different dark environments to play in
      Epic boss battles

The difficulty level might put inexperienced players off
Not much graphical improvement upon Demon Souls

      My opinion

I have got to say that when I said how difficult this game was it is a very punishing game in the fact that just about every enemy is out to get out you and kill you. It is a really bad ass game.

I have found whilst playing that after dieing and dieing again that I have gotten better at working out how get past each level it has been a sort of educational experience in some forms. This game does require a good deal of strategy if you want to get the most out of the game.

The way that the game works is you go from environment to environment killing enemies along the way you don't follow any storyline. You do meet new and different characters whilst playing in the environments and you can join different convents these are like groups that give you special powers to help you throughout your gameplay experience.

The Dark Souls gameplay experience does suck you in whether you want to be sucked in or not. I have found that even know I keep dieing the intensive for me to continue to get to the next environment is so high that I keep going on and trying to make it to the next environment, I really do say the game is very bleak.

The multilayer is very good, the main aspects are that you can leave messages in the environments either to help or hinder other online players. I actually found it really entertaining experience reading the comments left by other players warning me about something ahead or tricking me into believing that I would be safe then for something to be round the corner and then guess what I die again.

You can also join another players game to help them out maybe in a boss battle or you can also invade another players game to hinder them. Both of these options were very entertaining but I felt that it was a very different experience than the single player.

Whilst playing the game online you can also see blood stains from other players, blood stains are the stains left from other online players when they died, so you can watch there final moments before that player died so you don't make the same mistake as they did.

Dark Souls world is a huge free roaming world, not in the sense of a Grand Theft Auto free roaming world but in a sort of type that when you visit one environment such as a big cave then when or if you reach the end of a environment then you get transformed into a different environment.

The environments are so dark and bleak you can see how beautiful the environments are but they are beautiful in the sense of a type of darkness beautiful. I do find myself getting a little lost in the world because after a while I do get a bit sick of all of the doom and gloom so I try not to play for long sessions properly because I get scarred quite easily.

      Limited edition items

This being the review for the limited edition version of the game it comes with certain extra items I have listed them here:

      Dark Souls Game
      Limited Edition Game Box
      Making of the Game Dvd
      Original Soundtrack Cd
Mini Guide (Available to be downloaded)

I would say that it is worth paying the extra for the limited edition items but if you don't pay extra for items then the game on its own is far worth it and cheaper on it's own.

      Current prices

      Play.com £23.00
      Asda.com £24.00
      Shopto.net £27.85
      Amazon.co.uk £34.81

Dark Souls is a very difficult game, it's dark bleak and I would say that's it's hard to get into but once that you have gotten into it then you could well get sucked into the games world.
