I recently was searching for a game with a great engaging storyline and fun game play, which I find is hard to come by at the moment. Well I had to look no further as this game had all the elements I was looking for!
Far Cry 3 is a first person shooter set in an open world located on a paradise island. The story centres around a group of friends (and family) that go on holiday to a tropical island, but all their fun and joy is cut short when they are captured by the island rebels and held for ransom.
Fortunately Jason Brody (the main character that you play) manages to escape, and is set on a quest to find and free his friends with the aid of local tribes that will help him gain the (spiritual) strength and power to defeat the enemy and rescue his friends.
In Game Review:
The first thing I noticed when I began to play this game was the beautiful graphics. The cut scenes really illustrate the strengths of the PS3 graphic specs, with stunning colourful images and ocean water that looks to real i want to go dive in myself!
Next thing is the gripping story. Before you know it you find yourself playing as Jason Brody, running for your like through the beauty of the jungle. Jumping on cliffs, running through the jungle like surrounds to escape the rebels that have held his friends captive.
After that you are basically let loose into the HUGE open world to explore, with many people and characters to meet and side quests that will of course aid you on becoming the 'TRUE WARRIOR' as game frequently comments on.
In order for you to be able to save your friends you have to first gain the necessary skills and this is done by completing side quests. There are huge variation of type of side missions to complete, and all of which i found to be very fun indeed.
some include boat racing, pigeon shooting, ammunition drops (like a time trail race), knife throwing to name just a few.
The other method to gain skill points to learn new skills is to take over enemy outposts and to basically rid the island of rebels. I found this also be a very fun and motivating aspect of the game, making you want to level up your player and adding hours and hours of game play.
The crafting system is also great, you get to explore the paradise island for materials that can be made into healing medicine and into larger ammunition sacks. Hunting the animals nearby enables you to sell the hides and skins for money or use them to craft needed equipment. All which adds realism and fun to the game.
There are quite a few variety of weapons to unlock/ buy and use in the game, which can be done easily by progressing in the game and unlocking signal towers located around the map.
There is a a few online modes available to play with this game, the best is the coop mode in which you can team up with your friends and play a 6 mission based story (separate to the offline story mode). I found the coop mode to be a lot of fun.
Overall this game makes a nice change to the linear type first person shooters and lends its hand into open world full of side quests. The story is engaging and gripping which is very rare for a shooter game. It has endless amounts quests to complete making it a game that is great value for money.
I would recommend this game for any PS3 gamer, it is truly one of the best games I have played for the PS3!
