Grand Theft Auto IV (PS3)
Grand Theft Auto 4 had one of the most anticipated releases in gaming history. With little snapshot video's here and some gameplay footage there, it left everyone hungry for some more and so was able to sell vast numbers of the game. Has it lived up to the hype though?
In some aspects, yes it has. Firstly after the very unrealistic San Andreas this game is very realistic in the gameplay. The driving is alot harder and takes longer to get used to becasue it is very authentic - you can't just put your footdown you have to brake and negoiate corners with some realism. The other things about this game which make it realistic is the little touches like: smashing the car window in order to steal a car and being able to look inside a building through the windows.
The amount of variety you have concerning the storyline is amazing; there are so many side missions to take up, to fully complete (with help from a walkthrough) would take hundreds of hours.
The other great thing about this game is the freedom to as you please - the whole storyline is centred around your mobile phone wich allows you to meet up with people, arrange dates, pretty much whatever you want.
Its great to see, however, that GTA 4 has retained an amazing storyline with many characters and many very fun missions you to do.
However, this game isn't all good. The online is pretty bad and I think it would have been better if they had just focused on the campaign. Also, the storyline is alot shorter than its ancestors, and even though it makes up the short comings with many optional extras you can't help feeling a little let down that the stroy is over when you actually finish.
The most disapointing thing though is the fact it may just be too realistic. GTA was always a crazy game whether you could spawn a fighter jet destroy everything then fly away on a jetpack. The cheats are still there, however, there's less crazy variety and you can't do half the stupid stuff you were able to do on the GTA's of old.
Taking everything into consideration, yes it is a very good game but doesn't have that extra little bit chaos that made the other GTA games phenomenal.
