Advantages: Great 'party' game, brilliantly varied track listing, drums are a hoot

Disadvantages: Expensive, cumbersome, you're likely to argue over who gets to be the drummer

There's nothing that provides you with the rare combination of satisfaction and guilt quite as well as Guitar Hero. Battling and beating Slash in a guitar sword fight (in the musical sense, not literally) was a highlight of my time on the original Guitar Hero. Even if it did leave me with an overwhelming feeling of inadequacy when i realised I was simply hitting plastic buttons on an imaginary fret board.

World Tour adds to the original, winning formula by taking a leaf out of Rock Band's book. Along with the guitar, you now get a bass, microphone and drum kit. Invite your friends round (I struggle to think how you'd play that lot on your own) and you can all participate in an imaginary band. Still doesn't sound right, does it? Bare with me.

The track listing is impressive. The 86 tracks include student favourite Living on a Prayer, Willie Nelson's On the Road Again (surprisingly enjoyable) and a welcome delve into hip hop with Beastie Boys' No Sleep Till Brooklyn. Quite an eclectic mix, but one that keeps you coming back for more.

As for the hardware, the run away favourite in our house is the drum kit which, unlike the guitar, requires a certain amount of musical and rhythmic flair in order to be played well. Unusually for any game, it also gets easier the more you up the difficulty (albeit on tracks that you already know well).

All in all, I can heartily recommend GHWT if you have both the spare cash (at £140ish it aint cheap) and room. It is at its best when you've got a few mates round, beers stacked in the fridge and the volume whacked up to 11 - neighbours banging on your front door optional.

Summary: A great addition to the Guitar Hero brand

Trouble is, I'd be rubbish. I'd end up with a score like Keith Harris.
