Advantages: Best drum kit yet, play with your mates, decent online, best songs yet

Disadvantages: Very expensive, hard on the ankle!

For a product so expensive it is remarkable that Guitar Hero has become such a main stream success. None the less, at £150 this was one of the hardest to find gifts at Christmas. And my experience of it suggests that it is a model that will endure for years to come.

The drums are the breakaway success of this product, and are miles ahead of the drums accompanying rival Rock Band. Instead of four simple pads, it has three pads and two symbols, adding a more realistic feel to it. Additionally, the pads don't have the loud 'reality breaking' THUD that Rock Band's kit does. The drums are hard and most people will need an easy setting. It is also worth learning how to use the pedal efficiently: if you don't keep it down between beats rather than up, your ankle won't last the song!

The guitar is standard as usual without any real development, and the microphone is no great advancement from Singstar. But when you get all three instruments together (four if you have a guitar from an earlier version to play Bass) that is when the game really comes together. Online play is fun, although still lacking something to make it really worthwhile.

As for the game itself, again, not much has changed, but the songs on this are more relevant and well known than Legends of Rock. The best one yet and by some distance. But is it worth £150? It is great fun to be sure, but for a lot of people buying the cheaper games at £20 a go, this is worth 7 games. Just a thought.

Summary: If you have lots of spare cash this is great!
