Great concept with fantastic customisability but lacking in gameplay longevity (LittleBigPlanet (PS3))

Advantages: Great graphics, customisability, user created content, unique phsyics

Disadvantages: No gameplay longevity, laggy online

I bought this game when it was first released and it was billed as a revolution in gaming. It certainly is that as its one of the first games I've played where users can create their own levels. That in itself is not necessarily a new concept but the fact that it is accessible to even the casual user is a refreshing change. You do not need a degree in graphic design to create a level or character on LBP. The interface is intuitive and fun.

The problem I have with the game is that, whilst it is fun, the longevity of that fun is curtailed by the lack of things that the characters can do. For instance, whilst there are a million different user created levels out there, you will still find yourself doing the same actions (i.e. grabbing things, pushing things, jumping, waving at the camera). This can get a little tedious after a while and leave you wanting a bit more out of the game.

In conclusion, I believe this is a clever groundbreaking game that is currently lacking the longevity in gameplay. I look forward to future releases from Media Molecule.

Summary: Brilliant concept let down by lack of playability
