Advantages: Good graphics, great plot, great banter, simple
Disadvantages: Lacks the cinematography and locations of MW, thats it
Like me, those gamers reading this are more than likely modern warfare fans like me. And why not the MW series is fantastic. Now I had finished playing all on the MW series other than the last release. So when I was looking for a cheap game that could fill the gap, whilst I let the price of MW3 goes down, I decided to take a chance on this game. I knew it would be at least quite good as I have played and am a fan of the World War 2 Medal of Honor series.
Id heard Tier 1 was not as good as MW and that was reflected in the price, but I am glad to say that I was vastly wrong about that. Tier 1 takes place only in the Afghanistan campaign, the only differences are the units that you play when you are there, this makes the gameplay allot more simple and I like that, no swapping from one location to the next. It is similar to MW in that you do play multiple units, in Tier 1, you princially play Tier special operatives, Navy seals but elevated, your character is 'Rabbit' in the AFO Neptune, partnered with the officer 'Mother' , you have two other guys in your unit , 'Preacher' and 'Voodoo' and you operate in pairs or as a squad (four man unit). There is another tier 1 unit called AFO Wolfpack with another 4 guys whom you play Deuce partnered with 'vegas'. Secondly you play Adams a section member in the rangers, where you play again in a four man squad. Lastly, you play as an Apache pilot in the 'Gunfighters squadron, you go out as the gunner and take the enemy out on the mountain ranges.
I like this game because it is simpler, its not comic book war like you see on MW , by that I mean you dont have to stop nuclear weapons, you dont HALO jump into areas and take out seemlessly endless streams of enemies. Here for most of the game you will never engage more then about a dozen enemies. The banter over the radio is also much more technical than in MW , you`ll here hings like 'danger close, 50 yards , 2 o clock low, go in soft' and they wil expect that you need to know what that means. I do and so I like it.
The mission variation is great to search and destroy, sniping from a 1000 yards out, helo missions, defending a position down to the last bullet while wave after wave of taliban attack and the situation becomes so desperate that you accept that you probably wont make it out. Also there are allot of stealth missions, you can open up but that only gains you a bollocking from your partner.
The helo mission is especially brilliant you have a wicked rap soundtrack whilst you take them on. The weapon variation is the usual, M1A1s, grenadiers, M60 Pigs, M1 Sniper rifles etc, you dont have any flashbangs, but you do have grenades.
All in all the graphics are around 95% as good as MW, it has gone a bit slow in some of the more chaotic firefights. And they do use the 'player blown up, vision impaired, crawling to safety stuff' alittle too much but its not too bad. What I personally like is that allot of missions take place early in the morning on mountains where I have spent soe time climbing and the way they have the crunch of the snow underfoot and the glistneing snow/ice un patches is exactly like it is and made me want to be there.
Summary: A great substitute for MW, why havent they done another one !!
