The first thing that springs to mind when loading up Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe is simply: "weird mix". MK's vicious, gothic clique are naturally at home in the dank, seediness of Earthrealm, which has for so long been synonymous with the series, yet the black humour and excessive violence seems rather ill-fitting for the (mostly) wholesome visiting cast of DC superheroes and villains. Of all the dream "vs." combinations, it's hard to picture even the most creative of fans yearning to see Sub-Zero encasing Wonder Woman in ice, or baying for Superman to laser-beam psychotic thug Kano in the face.
Still, the unlikely pairing is what's on show here and there are times when it works, and times where the gulf creates problems. The game presents the usual Arcade mode setup where you work through a series of battles before facing Dark Khan (a fiery combination of villains Shao Khan and Darkseid). Victory grants a rather lame, gallery-shot ending with a brief narration divulging the nature of what each character did with their new-found power. More noteworthy however is the brave and enjoyable Story mode.
After choosing your side, you get to play through a lively narrative as a number of protagonists, and some smart cut-scenes flesh out the combat rather nicely. The Story sees a merging of realms, with figures from both sides getting transported into each other's habitats and succumbing to "Combat Rage", a symptom manifesting from the aforementioned Dark Khan's lust for conflict. Each chapter pits you as a different player, and cleverly, weaves a few of the more unsavoury figures into the mix as they attempt to benefit from the ensuing chaos. Admittedly, it's a touch disappointing that they opted to keep the franchises in strict in opposition throughout, possibly as forging any "common-ground" dialogues between the likes of Scorpion and The Joker would surely have proven difficult to substantiate.
With significant differences in fighting styles, as well as the fact that many of the DC lot aren't exactly a staple of the beat 'em up genre, the character-balancing perhaps inevitably isn't great. Raiden and Superman, as the story's main figureheads, have a fair bit more in the way of special moves than other characters. The Flash has a range of lightning fast combos and tricky-to-block-efforts whilst Sub-Zero is agile and full of frosty menace, but their potency ends up highlighting the deficiencies of others. The likes of Captain Marvel, Lex Luther and (despite being easily the most creative figure on show) The Joker all require rather more effort to make effective in battle. In fairness, isn't just the DC lot either; as spec-ops pairing Sonya and Jax struggle to establish themselves with short-range moves and neither are especially effective in fights. Toothy-freak Baraka and shady DC villain Deathstroke, whilst fairly robust combatants, seem tacked-on as they play virtually no meaningful role in the stories at all.
On the whole, it plays well enough. There's a fine (if over-familiar) array of quick 'n' easy combos and character-specific special moves, whilst the Kombo Challenges mode highlights the additional manoeuvres made available through good timing. Though it would perhaps be a little unfair to describe the fight system as wooden, there's no question it lacks the fluidity of the Tekken's and Streetfighter's of this world, and the ungainly block function rather draws attention to the severe shortage of low-aimed combat moves outside of basic attacks. To its credit, the game throws in a bunch of new gimmicks, even if they prove hit and miss. "Free-fall Kombat" sees fighters battling in mid-air, punching and parrying on the way down to the next level of the arena. Judged right, you can inflict 30% damage on an opponent's health bar, but as these can be reversed, and the player who hits the ground first takes all of the damage, they can also frustrate. Other quick-time events see you smashing your enemy through walls in a button-mashing frenzy to determine the extent of the damage, whilst the filling off the "Rage" bar grants the combatant near-unstoppable, hyper-powered moves that are guaranteed to turn the tide of most battles. You will of course enjoy the inclusion of the "Rage" function far more if you're the one using it, rather than being on the end of the already uber-powerful Dark Khan's unnecessary usage of the system.
The presentation isn't bad. Finding a happy medium for the bright 'n' chunky DC Universe characters is a tricky task, but though the game misses the heavy atmosphere that benefited the classic Mortal Kombat titles of the early nineties, the compromise is relatively well-met. It's rather odd seeing the superheroes mimicking the gangly punches and lurid uppercuts of their counterparts however, and only really The Joker is given a truly distinctive fighting style. The music is, on occasions, pleasantly foreboding, and the environments are a definite boon. The pick of the bunch include downtown Metropolis, Gotham City, the Batcave and also arenas where the two universes have been split down the middle, though the character select screen and menus are rather unattractive on the whole.
Perhaps the biggest disappointment attached to MK vs. DC is its fatalities. The once-legendarily gory finishers have been severely toned down, in all likelihood because certain folks wouldn't see the benefit of having Batman being ripped in two or Catwoman having her head-severed. So what you have is an unfortunate collective that ranges from the mildly diverting (such as The Joker's fake pistol routine and rather vicious playing card finishers) to the uneventful, and the downright rubbish - such as Shang Tsung replicating his opponent's appearance and then timidly levering them to the floor. So whilst it's always entertaining to give the finishers a go, most are a bit half-hearted.
There's just enough in way of distractions and game modes to give you a couple of weeks of play, with online and two-player functions propping things up. The two-player is, much like the single-player, an okay means of killing an hour or so, though it's not addictive or satisfying enough to get you enthralled in epic, best-of-50 matches.
Midway ultimately made sound work of what was in hindsight not an easy assignment. It's impressive that they've made this brawler as cohesive as it is, because by all accounts the two franchises involved are not an ideal fit. The fatalities aren't satisfying, the characters are a bit of a mish-mash and it's not as refined as the genres top representatives, but for all this, there's still some endeavour and enjoyment to be found in this bizarre marriage.
Seemed great this at first, but I got bored of it after a while playing. Am not going to pretend I'm usually a huge fan of this type of game, but if it's done well enough I can be. I spent most of the time whizzing around as The Flash......which ok, was totally awesome, but not long after I got bored and haven't been back to it since.
It did play well for a certain amount of time. Graphics great, story mode good, but just didn't seem to have a long life to it. A Soul Caliber game I had for instance was something I spent a lot more time on, and tried progressing through what seemed like crazy levels of difficulty because it was like you had a real skill you could develop and master, but that doesn't seem to be the case here.
Can get badly frustrating at the end boss aswell, especially if he all but kills you with a few hits and you're left trying to defeat him with a tiny amount of health left. It can be good for a while, and cool using the DC characters, but expected a lot more from it.
Mortal Kombat v Dc univerese is a decent enough game. It is a game that cant really change all that much every year as it is limited basic stage fighting. There are a few different changes it is a crossover from midway games to warner bros. This was the last title to be published by midway games as it has went bankrupt and I think this was their eleventh edition. Although you can fight with the mortal kombat charcters or the dc univerese characters. A good wee twist to spice up and change the game from its previous releases. The other thing I like about the game is you can choose story mode which does make it intresting and not as boring as just jumping from fight to fight you end up bored this way so something in between to totally take the gaming to a better level of enjoyment and intrest.
Things in the game have change slightly for better chanllenges for example you can play the story mode in two perspectives either mortal kombats side or dc univereses side or just the plain basic simple versus mode which has stayed for years and there is now a kombo challenge which is when you are fighting you have too complete ten combos which is challenging and it is good when you know the keys and sequence to the moves if not it can be fustarting but thats what makes a game chalenging in my eyes. There is a few other modes like the rage modes you have a rage meter that fills every time you take damage or attack. Once this is filled you can then activate rage mode different but does not last long. The thing I love about the game is it is more realistic as when the fight is progressing brusies appear and ripped clothing and also bleeding which is a new good feature. I love having the oppurtunity now to be batman and the joker and differnt characters and not just sub zero who is my favourite mortal kombat charachter. Overall not a bad game so I will give it two stars as I am not into fighting games I find it repitive and also I got it bought for me so it would not be a game I would buy.
I have been a fan of the Mortal games for a long time, when I heard that the mortal Kombat and the DC universe are coming together for a fighting game I was so hyped and couldn't wait for the release of this game, There is twenty two characters for you to choose from both universe whether it be Kombat or DC.
All the famous faces and my favorite character sub zero are in this game, also scorpion is present and all the major faces from Kombat. From the DC side we have Batman, superman, cat woman and also the joker is present so you will get an incredible lineup for to choose from.
What I like about this game the moves that the characters perform stay true to their characters and something you could see them pulling off for example the joker has bombs which can blow up your opponent, Cat woman has a whip which she can strike her opponents with and when she does you feel the pain from it.
All the characters feel unique and they all have different personalities, this game for some might be like a gimmick but it's pretty good for huge DC fans like me to take control of these hero in a fighting style setting. The game play is basically Mortal Kombat so if you have played previous edition you will feel right at home.
The game play relies on the main core game play of kicking, punching and combo's. There is a problem with this game as it's quite new for it to be in 3D you can now sidestep your way around the arena pretty easy, also its more harder as when I am playing as subzero and I fire my ice move it misses the opponent as they can sidestep away unlike the previous 2D game where this was not possible.
There are new features to this game such as the close combat where you put your opponent into a collar and elbow tie-up, but it's not easier said than done to achieve as you have to guess what button your opponent will press so you can deflect the move they are trying to pull but even though it's a good addition it actually feels a bit stiff and takes away from the fighting experience as sometimes you are in tie-ups for a long time.
There are also ways you can finish your opponent one way you can pick them up and dash and combo them all the way, or what I do I just keep on putting my opponent through walls to finish them, also there is a rage mode that it makes it hard for your opponent to block your solid combo's that you will pull off, all these moves are only present in a few stages but the option is there at least and this option makes it feel more like a superhero game.
I enjoyed this game but I felt was kind of lacking in depth in some parts of the game and it wasn't deep, one plus side is that it does have online play so there is replay ability for you in that sense, and if you are a fan of any of these two universe its worth checking out.
Mortal kombat first started out as an arcade game and began to spread like the plague. DC is a comic book company that brought us the likes off super man and batman. The two have collided to make MK VS DC universe. Great fun you would think.
There has been a rift in time and space and two worlds are colliding. There is an all out war between the two sides. Some want peace others want control either way get ready for a punch up.
Aside from the crazy cast of characters this game has very little to make it stand out in the sea of beat em ups. The destructible stages have been added in and have been done very well. Its great fun throwing cat women of a building and having sub-zero smash her face in on the way down. As usual there is loads of combos to master with crazy ten hit combos and awesome grab moves. However despite all the moves combos etc I still found I could button bash my way through the game even on the hardest mode. This seem to be the same with most beat em up game that have came out this year but MK VS DC universe seems to take it to the next level.
The graphics on MK VS DC are ok but don't seem to take full advantage of the ps3 and its amazing graphic system. The lighting and rain effects are very well done but are let down by the average graphics. If you are not a fan of beat em ups this game will get boring very fast. There really just isn't enough here to keep you gaming for over 9 hours in all.
A fun game while it lasts with very little replay value and ok graphics.
Succeeding Mortal Kombat deadly alliance, Mortal Kombat have teamed up with DC universe Comic's to create a fighting Simulation game!
The Player can now play as Raiden and use the Power of the thunder God, and also play as Sub Zero The Ice Dragon, but also be able to play as classic comic characters. Such as Batman, Wonder woman and Superman. All great Kombat and DC characters.
The game Starts off when two different Worlds/Universes Collide into one another, opening voids and teleportations into both realms, the player chooses a side to play on and then he fights on either realm to stop corruption and succeed the war.
The downside is you don't pick your character's you get them assigned to you and then you take the character through his/her chapters. With 22 Characters it is really amazing!
Also while we are on the subject of 'downsides' the game does not have the 3D realm explorations as Deadly Alliance did. Which to me does not do the game any favours, Being able to explore the realm is what made Mortal Kombat amazing in it's prime always a step ahead of others. Not having the 3D realm is a bitter disappointment to me.
The game does have a great replay factor though, as instead of playing as the same character throughout both playthroughs, you play as a completely new character. Which increases the Longivity of the game.
Online is extremely satifisfying for any Mortal Kombat fanatic, as there is a new feature to the online mode, Basically as you are online you get directed to a lobby where you can hype yourself up and big yourself up, and on the left there are the players online currently and they're connection status.
Then once you play and win in consecutive game's you develop a streak of games. Then there's the hall of fame desplaying the best online player's such as the best streaker(yes I laughed at first aswell!) the Most online game player etc.
The game does not Lag online and I have played it several times. A great development in the MK Franchise.
Overall I would definitely recommend to any Mortal Kombat Hunters out there as the game is Consistently improving over the years.

The story takes place when two worlds colide. That being Earth and the mortal kombat realm are all mixed up, you fin dyourself chosing to take on 2 story modes either chose the side of DC comic character such as the joker, batman & superman etc, or MK character like scorpion, sub-sero & raiden.
Each side fight each other through rage, which takes them over making them fight each other the basis of your story. Quite a weak storyline but as long as it pits you against your opponants what more could you ask of in a Mortal Kombat game.
the gameplay is actually really good, I was not sure about how well the DC characters would perform but they have made their moves very mortal kombat like fitting in with the general aspect of the game and all characters have a dark overtone to them. The characters gain damage throughout the figts so ripped clothes a blood (obviously) is increased through each round and damage recieved. THe fatalities in this game are given to you for a change saving you looking them up online. About time they did that in a mortal kombat game. Always good to have them.
The in game tropies generally consists of pulling off all fatalities with all characters, pulling of 10 move combos with each character and then completing all the modes.
You also have the VS mode and the aracade mode which is good fun to play, with several difficulty settings for people of all talents to join in the mayhem. There are a few new interactive settings with the screnery which looks good. you can smash people through some walls and the breakable sides onto the floor below good fun and also causes lots of damage. Another new feature is being able to grab people and fight up close and personal to cause extra damage, but they can turn this against you if you are unlucky.
This game overall is really good and I would reccomened it as one the best fighter on the PS3 at the moment. check this out!
I was quite surprised by this game, it is a lot better than I thought it would be. It pits the fighters of Mortal Kombat against characters from the DC universe of comics. I really like this concept as you can play as legendary characters such as Batman, Superman and the Joker. Not to mention classic Mortal Kombat characters such as Sub Zero and Scorpion.
The story does a good job in my opinion of explaining how these two universes have come together. A substance called Rage within these characters is being manipulated so that they want to uncontrollably fight each other. I feel the story does just enough to set up the fights between characters. You can play through the story from the Mortal Kombat or DC side which is a nice touch.
I find the actual fighting to be the stand out feature of this game. It feels really kinetic and fluid, like the characters are actually making contact when they strike each other. The combo and fatality moves are really satisfying and are easier to pull off than they used to be. The controls feel really good, responsive and simple.
The presentation is really good, with characters costumes becoming torn the more damage they take. The gore level has been toned down due to the licensed DC characters but I feel this doesn't detract from the overall experience.
This is a great fighting game and one of the best in the Mortal Kombat series, I highly recommend it.
