Advantages: Pick up and go factor, well designed courses, nice crashes, range of vehicles

Disadvantages: Lack of new features, graphics could be sharper

I have generally found there are two types of racing games: those that require you to practice, and learn the course, and master your art, and drive seriously; then there are those where you pick up the controller, hold down the x button, smash the opposition out the way, and have a blast. This game falls into the second category!

It is ridiculously easy to pick up, but not in a way which means the game is finished in 5 mins. It is really to just pick up and play, and have enough success that it is fun for all comers, but it has enough depth that some persistence is needed to get to the end of the game (as much as you get to an end of a title like this).

The range of vehicles add a great dimension, and doing breath taking jumps on a motorcycle feels great, as do the great crashes and spills. The tracks are wonderfully designed, and the graphics bright enough to feel next gen. Not a ground breaking game: it pushes no limits, it doesn't innovate, and it isn't going to win awards for subtelty. But it reminds me what I liked so much about PS and Megadrive racers: the 'pick up and go' factor. A real fun game.
