Advantages: Lots of vehicles to choose from
Disadvantages: Mediocre graphics, can be frustrating
MX vs. ATV Untamed is a racing game for the Playstation 3 developed by THQ.
The main career mode available in MX vs ATV Untamed is the X-Cross Tournament where you compete in all types of vehicles to beat the various race events with the ultimate goal of conquering everyone and ending up as the winner of the tournament! There is no storyline on offer here just what you make up for yourself, but that isn't a bad thing as even the best racing titles don't come with a tale to tell.
You can take control of a wide variety of vehicles in MX vs. ATV untamed as the name suggests you will get control of motocross bikes and ATVs, monster trucks, buggies and even minimotos! Each vehicle controls slightly differently with the motocross bikes being less stable but more nimble and quick and the giant monster trucks being more clunky but remain quite stable on the terrain. There isn't a massive difference between the other vehicles however but you will feel like you are controlling a different beast altogether when you switch from one extreme to the other.
The racing allows you to take control of one of the classes of vehicles and lets you drive them round the track, there are many different types of environment in the game ranging from deserts to more normal tarmac terrain to indoor arenas, there are also some trick races that you can get into but this is where one of the games flaws holds it down.
Untamed like previous MX vs ATV games most courses have you have to navigate a series jumps and then when you are up in the air make sure you are lined up correctly so that you don't mess up on the landing, something seems to have changed though as landing is never as easy as it should be more often than not you will find your rider catching a face full of arena floor.
Even when it looks like you should make it, you will find yourself falling off which is particularly frustrating in the trick mode where you need to get the maximum height on the jumps making landings even more difficult.
Graphics are not a strong point here, I know how good an offroad racing game can be with the likes of Motorstorm on the system. This game isn't horrible but the level of detail is generally a lot lower than Motorstorm.
MX vs. ATV Untamed is decent but has less than stellar graphics and frustrating moments that hold it back.
Summary: A decent racing game.
