==About The Game==
Naughty Bear is a PS3 game created by 505 Games. It is also available on Xbox 360 and iOS devices. The player controls "Naughty Bear" and progress through levels to earn "Naughty Points" by destroying and sabotaging items as well as scaring and murdering other bears. Naughty Bear is influenced by the narrator of the game who sounds like you would expect a children's TV. presenter to sound.
==Price and Availability==
Naughty Bear for the PS3 costs £15.49 new on Amazon and seems to be easily available in most places that sell PS3 games.
The main character is Naughty Bear; he is a shabby looking teddy bear who is very mischievous. The other bears on the island do not like Naughty Bear because of this.
There are various other bears that live on Perfection Island these are; Daddles, Chubby, Giggles, Cozy, Nibbles, Trembles, Fluffy, Sunbeam, Bubbles and Stardust.
There's also some "Cop Bears" led by Cop Gordon who come to the island to help the other bears when Naughty Bear is terrorising them. In other levels there are bears such as Ninja bears that are just around for specific levels.
After the tutorial the storyline begins with Episode 1 - which is all about Daddles' birthday party. The other bears are planning the party but do not want Naughty Bear to find out as they have not invited him. Naughty Bear goes to the party anyway with a present for Daddles in an effort to win the other bears round so they will like him. When he gets there Chubby and Giggles see the present and laugh at Naughty Bear which humiliates him. He goes back to his house and then decides to get revenge on the other bears by going on a rampage and punishing the other bears by scaring them and killing them.
The other "Episodes" as they are called follow Naughty Bear in a variety of different situations where he has to "punish" certain bears as they are trying to either kill him or harm him in some way.
Each episode has four levels to it. You play the first level, and then the other three levels are basically exactly the same as the one you have just completed but with different rules. For example on one of Episode One's levels you have to kill all the bears with no bears escaping, and on another you are not allowed to hit the bears with your fists or a weapon. You have to either scare them to deal or kill them while they are repairing something that you previously sabotaged.
The bears can escape the island either in a car or in a boat; luckily you can sabotage or destroy these which prevents anyone escaping. There are also phone booths were the bears can call for help, so destroying these stops the Cops coming to the island.
There are a variety of weapons at your disposal, including machete's, guns, bear traps, knives, baseball bats, axes, joints of meat and various other ones that you find throughout the game. The other bears will also use weapons against you so don't be afraid to use one on them first.
There are quite a few trophies to this game, a lot of them you get simply by completing each episode and unlocking things that unlock throughout the game. There are a few that are a bit trickier to get as you have to specifically work at them, for example one trophy requires you to get all the police on the island at once without killing any of them. There are two areas per Episode and you can have two cops on each area so you just have to get the first two onto the island then leave them to it and head to the next section and get the other two on the island as well. It sounds simple but it's not as you need to scare the other bears enough that they call the cops twice, and then complete the rest of the mission without killing the cops or being killed by the cops.
When I watched the beginning of the first Episode where Naughty Bear goes to the party and gets laughed at I felt really sorry for him as he was trying to be nice. The first Episode was fun and I enjoyed going round and slaughtering all the bears. What I didn't like was then having to repeat the same level three more times with the different rules; I soon got bored of it. My fiancée however loves the game so it is different for everyone that plays it.
When the game first loads up there is some very children's TV show sounding music and it is all very colourful and happy looking which makes you begin to think "oh no, this is a little kids game", then Naughty Bear pops up holding a knife covered in a bears stuffing and your back to looking forward to murdering some teddy bears. All the other bears are very colourful and jolly looking as is the scenery of the levels and even the voice over. It appears to be a nice happy game until you and the other bears start attacking each other with various implements. It is a very interesting game that is different to any that I personally have seen before.
Personally I don't really have any interest in playing the game anymore, perhaps now and again when the mood takes me but that's it. I would recommend for other people to try it as it is fun in the beginning and a lot of people will love the game. I'm just really fussy about what games I like playing more often than others.
"Naughty Bear tells the tale of one demented teddy bear's ruthless efforts to torment and harass the inhabitants of the Island of Perfection."
Upon reading this concise description of Naughty Bear I was instantly intrigued, I feel that many new games that are being released are bland and frankly poor imitations of the Call of Duty series whereas Naughty Bear as a concept has the originality and comedy value that attracts me to gaming.
The opening sequence of the game aptly sets the scene for the game which is hilarious and at times just unusual. The over-arching objective of the game is to kill and terrorise bears in order to exact Naughty's revenge. There are a vast range of weapons and methods available to achieve this objective from careful stealth kills and disabling phone lines to simply getting a gun and killing every bear you see. It is this unique and varied style of play which really makes Naughty Bear feel like a rare treat. Additionally once a level has been completed with the method of your choice there are specific challenges to be achieved such as timed runs and completing the level without being seen by the other bears, this was a particularly nice touch and gels well with the PS3's trophy system because it rewards you with online trophies and in game costumes with special bonuses and unique benefits which give the game a more tactical edge.
What I found disappointing about the game though is the lack of local multiplayer options. The online mode was adequate and the option to compare high scores with friends is a nice touch but I feel the problem with many new generation games is they fail to cater for more casual players who prefer to play together from the same room. In my experience the chance to get a decent score and enjoy the full potential of a level was a set back to taking it in turns to play through a level and obviously there is no split screen which would have alleviated this issue. In my opinion the lack of viable local multiplayer is the only thing holding back this fun and original game from the 5 star rating I feel it could so easily have achieved.
Please remember to rate my review. Thanks XD
Well i've only spent a small time playing this game, but immediately i ran into some problems.
For a start. the controls are a little clunky and hard to get used too, it'll take a few minutes before you get the hang of them, but they do their job, just not as well as they could have. Trying to tinker with objects can be a problem at first, especially if your trying to do it fast so noone spots you, i had to try a couple of times before i faced in the right direction to destroy a present on a fire.
The games AI is fairly good, when scared, the bears will hide and barricade the doors to prevent you from entering the room, when not scared, they will also wander around searching for you, unfortunately its all to easy to hide, so its rare they'll find you.
The game can be slightly depressing however, pulling off some of the harshest attacks you'll probably see against a teddy bear in your life. Such as smashing a bears head in until it goes flat, and stabbing it in the stomach with a sword. Or alternatively, if you scare them enough, they'll commit suicide with whatever weapon they have in their hands. Unfortunately you can't do straight out killing, the game requires you to be close to the bear to actually kill it, so you can't sit in a bush and shoot a bear repeadtedly in the head and expect it to die. Although annoying, it does allow for some cool cutscenes. Scaring also only works as close range.
The graphics remind me of a 2004 game or so, sort of a high end PS2 game or a PC game of the time, nothing impressive, it does its job and thats it.
Probably the biggest problem, is the fact that all the missions are very similar, basically nearly all of them involve scaring the bears to death (literally, you can make a bears head implode if he gets to scared) and plotting their demises through evil schemes such as sabotaging a barbecue, then when someone comes to fix it, shoving their face into the flames. A few missions have special requirements, such as friendly challenges force the player not to attack anyone, even if they attack him, meaning the only way to win is to scare the bears to death.
Really the game has little to offer, apart from humouress moments and some heartless teddy bear killing cutscenes. I would spend your money elsewhere, this game may provide enjoyment for a few minutes, but you'll soon be left wanting more.
Review also posted on Gamespot under the name of 'Dregfy'.
Im afraid this is more of a warning rather than a review, Naughty bear is now the worst game I have ever played and whilst it pains me to say it I feel it's my duty to make sure you don't waste any of your valuable time, that could be better spent watching paint dry instead.
Naughty bear was released was released at the end of June and is an action game , in which you control a Naughty bear on a paradise island. He decides that the best thing to do about no one liking him is to kill everone in numerous ways, because surely that will change their mind.
The story (If it can be called that) is that unsurprisingly Naught hasn't been invited to a birthday party, he even has a present , but on the way there anyway he is mocked by 2 bears causing Naughty to get stroppy and chuck his present in the fire, picking up a bit and setting off for revenge against the island...
This is a terrible story, both in the narrative and morality sense. Apart from the opening sequence their is not much going on apart from showing the reason why this bear is killing everyone.
The narrative is spoken through a man who acts like a child's tv presenter, no only is he annoying as hell but he doesn't add anything except an attempt at dark humour due to the situation.
On to the gameplay and it involves travelling around the island killing a certain amount of bears, to unlock a bridge which opens a new area of bears, so on and so forth till the credits roll.
As you wander round the island the means of killing are mainly clubbing and shooting, but these handle incredibly bad due to the lack of "lock on" targeting. This means that hitting a target is luck, if you manage to hit a bear it will become maimed and run away, stopping after a few seconds to catch its breath or being distracted by the light of the fire and forgetting why it was running.
Every type of weapon has an "Ultra kill" a little like VATS for fallout, but the animations can be counted on your hand , so soon become tiresome and repetitive.
Cops do appear later on in the game , but cleary it doesn't take much to work for paradise island police department, if you stand right in front of their gun they still wont hit you.
The camera is your other enemy , apparently it's very afraid of what Naughty bear is doing and so will constantly decide to look at a wall or a flower to forget about the carnage.
Considering it is being played on the PS3 , it suffers horrendous frame rate drops. Beleive me , this game is no Crysis it's got pretty shocking graphics all told with everything looking more PS1, you can walk through what should be solid objects and even moving is difficult as the game sometimes decides it wants you to go somewhere else.
The sound is repetitive with the same sound bite being used over and over again with the soundtrack being non existant.
Would you beleive that this game has a online multiplayer, if you manage to get some other players to join you can run around shooting each other until the points hit a total. It should be noted that it manages to work worse than the offline game.
The game is Available for £27 on Amazon but this is less than bargain bin standard and what makes it worse is that this game is for 12 year old's ? I defend games to the death, Gta and Manhunt have cause me to be in many arguments but this is undefendable.
It has a couple of hours of gameplay but its complete rubbish from the first minute.
Overall, very unimpressed.
