Advantages: Still classic Pro Evo

Disadvantages: No better than earlier games

This is now Konami's third game on the next generation consoles, and really, they should be doing better than this. At the core is still the unmatched pro evo gameplay, but since you can get equally good play from any of the last five pro evos it's hard to really see that as a reason for paying twice as much as you would for one of the old games.

The biggest mess up is in the presentation, which unless you lament the 80's for being too understated, you are very unlikely to warm to. I could probably forgive it if the menus were very quick and easy to use, but they're not, setting up matches takes twice as long as it should and you're never quite sure if you're heading down the right path. Playing a game on-line is made needlessly compliacated with some useless lobby system which makes you check every single player to check if they've got a free spot or not.

Talking of on-line play, which should have been this generation's pro evo's greatest assest, it's an unplayable laggy mess. Avoid it.

The single player is better, with this version requiring a good mix of both dribbling and passing skills to beat the computer at the top level. However, as anyone who has played pro evo before will know, the computer does tend to play quite unfairly, and I regret to say this version is one of the worse offenders.

It seems harsh to give a negative review to what actually is a very good game, but as it's just not an improvement of earlier games it's very hard to recommened for purchase.

Summary: Buy one of the older versions for cheaper.
