Ratchet and Clank...as a kid I remember playing the games on the playstation 2, impressed by the creativity of the new weapons unmasked to defeat your foe, such as the boogeybomb (a weapon that shoots out a disco ball which forces your enemies to dance). However, when this came out I was considerably older and this game is a complete guilty pleasure of mine - although not really that guilty.
This adventure separates Ratchet and Clank from the start as you have to go through separate missions from both, finding out conflicting parts to the adventure from each part. On Ratchet's side he finds another lombax, whom he thought were extinct after their world was destroyed...but now armed with the knowledge they could go back in time and save the lombax's, Ratchet is faced with a difficult decision. On the other hand Clank is in the clock, which is in the centre of the universe and it is here that controls time and all order. He finds out his father had set it in his destiny to look after the clock, and ensure that all time waves were controlled and repaired within the solar system. He learns all the skills of a time keeper, and realises that to play with time would perhaps tear apart the universe.
This story brings a conflict between Ratchet and clank, both fighting for family values that they did not know existed until they were both apart. Their relations are strained however do they make the right decision in the end?
The adventure alongside the storyline is very well done, with many places to explore. For anyone who likes a huge map and an adventure full of twists and action then this game is for you. Along with a mixture of assorted guns, this game is fun and truly down to earth. I would rate it 9/10 overall.
Being a huge fan of the Crash Bandicoot series, I was sceptical of Ratchet and Clank being able to live up to the plat-forming series. In short, I was pleasantly surprised! What a great game!
The mixture of guns and plat-forming works perfectly. There is literally a huge range of weapons and most of them are ridiculous. The other, perhaps best aspect of the game is it's actually really funny. For example the best weapon of all has to be the Groovitron, a portable disco ball that makes all your monsters dance ready for you to gun them down. Additionally there's a secret unlockable weapon that is absolutely massive, filled with rockets and machine guns and who knows what else - it's well worth getting.
The game I'd say took me around 15 - 20 hours to complete with probably half of the secrets. It certainly has a huge replay value as it doesn't take itself very serious and is packed with hundreds of unlockables. The great aspect of the game is the manipulation of time built into the gameplay mechanics as clank, that works really well and has some great puzzles. The game is also very beautiful and looks great in 720p. I recommend this entirely to anyone who is a fan of comedy and games!
