The game begins pretty much exactly where the first one left off. Nathan Hale, the main charater is pretty much the last surviving soldier left from the UK. The rest of Europe has fallen to the chrimeran invasion and you are picked up and taken to Iceland then America to fight the resistance without so much as a thankyou and a rest break. From the first scene its clear this game has moved on to bigger things. The first mission sees you in a huge battle on Iceland in which a huge chrimeran spider type thing is looming above you. The game has opted for an older style format with the usual mission objectives and a boss fight at the end. A lot has changed since the first game and not all for the better.
First of all the graphics. I mentioned in my review of resistance fall of man that the game had good graphics for the time but they now looked out dated. It's good to see they have noew been updated and the game still looks good today. I also mentioned how the game was also in very dull colours. Grey mostly and although a bit boring it did add to the feeling of depression and isolation thorughout the game not to mention giving it an older feel to the game which is what you want when it is set in the 40's. This game has ditched the Greys and gone all out on the colours. Every scene is an extravagant mix of bright colours and although some people might see this as a good thing i think they lost one of the main reasons the story in the first game had so much impact. Im all up for better looking graphics but i think they have gone over the top with colours in this one.
Another thing i liked about the first game is the maps were in localised places like Grimsby and Nottingham wheras this game seems like it has gone hollywood blockbuster style with places like New york and Sanfransico. I dont have anything against America nor am i saying that games shouldn't be set in places like that but it feels as if the developers are just trying to attract the wider audience rather than thinking about the game itself and just feels like a bit of a sell out.
Little has changed in terms of gameplay with except that Nathan now interacts with his enviroments much better and the guns have been made more powrful so they can add more enemies into a battle. All of which is a step in the right direction.
Im not sure if anyone else who played this game had this problem but when i played it through i put it on easy mode and still i found it an incredibly difficult game. I have been gaming for many years and have to say was damn good at resistance fall of man so i don't think it could have been just me. One mission especially i got stuck on for a good week and considered just packing in and giving up. Im all up for a challenge but when a game is so hard on easy that i nearly give up, something is wrong.
As far as the story goes i could describe it best as a rollercoaster ride and not in the usual sense in that it is exiting till the finish but that it is very up and down. Some missions will have you flying up to a chrimeran battle crusier and setting an explosive for a few minutes then jumping of the side of it with the huge crusier exploding behind you and toppling into another. And i'd like to say now that the cut scenes look amazing and the scene i have just described is one that has stuck with me ever since i played it. But other missions i found just plain bored me to death such as making your way through the forest and fending off attacks from invisible enemies.
The story in this game also doesn't really get interesting untill half way through the game. The story is in the first game Nathan was infected with the chrimeran virus and he needs to find the cure before he turns into one himself. Towards the end i was engrossed in the story but otherwise i found myself mid game just wasting time and killing enemies.
In conclusion i would recommend this game to anyone who hasn't already played resistance fall of man but if you have you may be dissapointed by the differece between this and the first which was a great game. The game has it's moments with huge set peices and massive boss battles (litrally hundreds of metres high) but it also has too many flaws to win my gratitude as a game worthy of my money.
One of the most insane Resistance games yet, this encapsulates everything that was great about the first games (ingenious weapons, advanced graphics, great AI) and completely ratchets up the graphics and multiplayer options.
Graphics: There are some scenes in this game that are truly jaw-dropping, from giant Chimera spider robots walking around to the assault of a full-on Chimeran invasion force. You will most definitely see the power of the PS3 being stretched in this game!
Story: The story picks up from the original Resistance, with the Chimera being rather annoyed and initiating a full on invasion force against Earth. The fighters are on their last legs and it is up again to Nathan Hale to destroy the invaders!
Gameplay: There are many more weapons in this game with the auger again making an appearance (the ability to shoot through cover is never boring) with the inclusion of the Rossmore shotgun and gatling gun the wraith, pulse cannon and splicer! The amazing spike grenade are again also present (they never get boring). You will face off against the
Online: Here is where the game totally excels over the original. With the ability to play on specially designed co-op maps with up to 8 players, with each player being able to choose a specific role (heavy weapons, medic, engineer and so on). This allows for many great team based games and each classed is balanced. Through gaining experience, you can get new weapons and special abilities (such as creating a shield or make a massive healing point). You fight against massive enemies as well, with real coordination required to take them down! 60 players at a time can fight online with the standard deathmatch, team deathmatch options!
An absolutely amazing title!
Resistance 2 for the Playstation 3 is the follow to the popular Resistance:Fall of Man. Having loved to original game, it was only natural that I buy the sequel and I wasn't disappointed.
In terms of the storyline play and missions, Resistance 2 does offer some good gameplay but for me the beauty lies within the online multiplayer option. I am by no means what you might call a 'gamer' but found myself playing Resistance 2 for hours on end with all those other online maestros!
For those who haven't played before, Resistance is a sci-fi shooter, similar in gameplay to the likes of Call of Duty and Gears of War. The story mode is by no means as good as the aforementioned classics but in my opinion the multiplayer mode surpasses it. The scenario is basically humans vs chimera (aliens) and you have a choice of which side to take during multiplayer. However, in story mode the humans are sent out to the coast in force to battle the chimera who have launched a full scale invasion.
The weapons are a mix of human and alien (Chimera) technology. Like most games of this kind there is a good variation of heavy artillery and pistol type guns. You are limited to two weapons, unlike in the original version of Resistance. Multiplayer mode can feature up to 60 players which can be total carnage and relies on a lot of skill and weapon choice. My favourite mode is Deathmatch which is all against all up to a designated 'kill score'
This is an incredibly addictive that I would highly recommend if you have played the first game or like shooters.
Resistance two is a follow up game from the first which was previously resistance. This is a sci fi shooter game. Protagonist Nathan Hale travels to the USA and he is a part of a squad called the Sentinels they are a specail task force but their duty is to stop the enemy from attcaking so they have to stop and battle the Chimera who are attacking the east and west coasts. The story in this is good a bit like a hint of resident evil as there is a Chimeran virus and you and your force have it but they can keep it under control with inhiobators but it is just a matter of time before it takes over.
Gameplay is good you have most of the same weapons from the previous game but new additional weapons are now available from the marksman and the mini gun. Unlike the first game the weapons are more alien like and some human mad guns too and the new weapon the mini gun is High Velocity and can peirce through things. It is a single player campaign. You can also play multiplayer multiplayer in two variations now in multiplayer mode you can track the player's performance, gaining experience and this leads to rewards and going up the skill ranking. The thing that baffles me is in the old game you could play co-op in this game you can not which annoys me as developers are here to try and improve the last game and here they are minimizing the benifits we had from the game. It is outragoues or maybe the devloper thought it was a good idea or got lazy personally I think co-op should have staid in this game. It does have a co-op mode but not in single campaign mode. The game is well put together in the other hand in graphical outcome and also story line is fantastic and the weapon choice is A grade stuff. I like the game and enjoy playing it but for me three star on the case of the co-op issue in single player mode.
Resistance two follows on from the first as you play as nathan hale in the war against the chimera force. Now instead of fighting in the UK you are now fighting the war in your home country, the USA.
This is game is as good as the first game but i am not sure that it beats it. It has a new range weapons both human or chimera, the exploding rounds in the magnum are a great feature. Also there are a few new enemy units that you will need to face during the game.
The single player campaign is good as throughout the different levels you be fighting alongside your team but also you will split and fight alone. The only problem with this game is that the story line through the campaign is a little hard to understand and i think that it needed a little more explaining.
The graphics and sound affects through out the game are quite good not as good as some other first person shooters but they still aren't bad. The online mutiplayer game is also worth playing as it allows you to play against up to 60 other players.
The second game in the Resistance series for the Playstation 3 continues to follow Nathan Hale in his fight against the Chimeran invasion. This sequel takes place in the United States and, much like the first game in England, takes you all round the country during the campaign.
The gameplay in this second outing is, other than the obvious FPS elements, changed. The damage you take is now handled in a style similar to the Call of Duty Modern Warefare franchise as the screen discolours until you find cover to fully recover. This makes the game slightly easier than its predecessor and takes away some of the adavantages the original game had in its differences from other first person shooters.
The guns continue in the same vein as the first game with a few new additions that are equally innovative. The basic enemies of the game remain roughly the same however again with new additions, such as the zombie like creatures which swarm you at several times during the game. Unlike the first game this includes far more defined 'boss fights' with big enemies at the end of each section which require a specific strategy to complete.
The online portion of this game is strong and weill keep you interested as you gain experience for completing different objectives in both competitive and co-operative modes. The co-op modes give you new levels ina seperate campaign to complete alongside several people taking roles such as medic and soldier, much like the Team Fortress franchise.
Overall i felt that this game was lacking somewhat when compared to the first. The gameplay and graphics are certainly refined, however it lacked the isolated feel of the first game and was somewhat less memorable an experience. However I would still recommend this game to someone who has played the first to see where Nathan Hale ends up, however a newcomer should ecrtainly seek out the first game beforehand.
I really loved the first game in this series called Resistance I felt it was one of the best games I have played on the PS3 and it became in my knowledge the flagship game in the PS3 franchise just like Halo is for Xbox so I knew there were definitely going to make a new game called Resistance 2.
Well basically the story carries from the first game, one thing I noticed when playing was how this game was so much larger in scope to previous game, the story is about a conflict which is raging across the USA, the story skips across cities around the USA, what this does it makes it feel that it is a bigger more brutal war since the USA is the last remaining free area in the world, each level has a moment which made my jaw just drop like the crazy bosses that take up the entire screen, or vistas of rampant destruction and the ambition is amazing.
The gampleplay make you fight and tables against hordes of enemies at any one time coming at you, or you can take part in large skilled battles with lots of allies.
I like how they fitted all this onscreen and the frame rate is still solid, there is some weird technical hitches though in this game like some texture are noticeably low resolution, there is some screen tearing and pop ins but if you look at the scale at the scale of the game this is understandable.
The story is pretty good overall but I do have some issues with it like there is no narrator like Rachel from the first game, there is no one to tie the story together, also character motivation are not clearly explained, also the ending of the story will leave you confused.
I felt the game was fun, also new weapons like the magnum with the exploding bullet is pretty sweet, also the bull eye weapon is back and its comfortable to hold, the enemies AI in this game are pretty ruthless so you will get a good challenge, also your MPC crew are equally as smart they don't wait around to be killed they return fire and even take out the enemies for you.
The single player of the game is good, the multiplayer is probability the best experience I have ever had, there is a co-op mode with which you can play with eight friends, these are side missions which run parallel with the main story and give you a set of objectives.
What it does it shows the war from a different angle as it's not just Nathan fighting this war by himself, the system I feel is very slick and there are three classes' soldier, spec-ops, and medic.
In game levels you can unlock specific perks called bezerk powers, these perks are reducing damage, or projecting energy that ring that will generate health for your squad mates.
The mode is very fun and just how dynamic it is, like for example you can be given an objective and based on how well you succeed the game might throw more enemies at you, the game is basically always evolving. You have to play as a team to get through this mode.
There is also a competitive mode, also there are the usual death matches and capture the flag modes, skirmish mode is the one you should look for as there can be up to 60 guys on one map, also there is no lag, this mode is objective based like co-op.
I feel this is the best Resistance game and it might actually be one of the games on the PS3 at the moment, from the modes, story, gameplay and is all around generally fun.
The original Resistance: Fall of Man was probably the best PS3 launch title of them all: it had a fun story, a unique British location, and a cracking multiplayer mode. This sequel, imaginatively titled Resistance 2, takes everything that made the first game great and amplifies it, making this an improvement that deserves your attention.
The single player offering places you once again in the shoes of grunt Nathan Hale, who is this time in the United States in an attempt to help the soldiers there fend off the grotesque Chimera, an alien race who attempt to enslave the human race and take over the world. The first game left several unanswered questions, and this game seeks to continue the epic, globe-trotting story. This mode is just like the original: surprisingly challenging and also quite lengthy, unlike so many FPS games these days.
The game also has great graphics, even if it's not a huge improvement over the previous game or a particular contender for the likes of Killzone 2. It has great sound effects, too, particularly with regard to the alien weapons which make some very sonic noises.
The real meat of the game, though, is its immense online offering, which now allows you to play in huge 60-player battles, which is presently a record for the PS3 and, I believe, any current-generation console. Although it means you won't end up living long online, the battles are utterly frantic and you're never short on someone to kill! For the impatient run and gunner, this is the way to go!
Although perhaps not a technical advancement so much, Resistance 2 fine tunes everything that made the first game so great, and is well and truly one of the best FPS games in recent memory.
Resistance 2 is the follow up game to Resistance fall of man. Which to put bluntly was outstanding, being the first 1st person shooter available on the ps3.
So the second game in this wonderful series had a lot to live upto in terms of graphics, gameplay, and multiplayer.
And you will not be dissappointed, the graphics have been vamped up and look stunning, loads of gorgeous locations and awesome looking rivals.
Other great improvements range form there being a host of new weapons for you to wiled into battle with, larger enemies and much better AI. When i say larger enemies i quite literally mean titanic. They have some crazy baddies for you to attack this time round!
There have been no changes to the controls, meaning you can go from the first to the second game seamlessly. One clever change is that you can only carry two weapons at a time. Making you think ahead for situations and what weapon/weapons you actually need.
This game follows the story of the first which is good to hear, and the cut scenes look stunning as well.
With this second installment it looks as though the developers hit the nail on the head, everything has been improved so much so that this game is truly awesome.
But and for some reason there is always a but. The only problem is the length of this superb game. Its far too short. Yes missions are quite long and intense in some cases but the overall game is too short. If only they had copied the first game for this point.
Apart from that you must simply own this game!
Top marks which built on the first installment to create this masterpiece.
Resistance 2 is the second game in this fanstastic series. Again we follow Sgt Nathan Hale in the events that occur after the events which happened in Resistance Fall Of Man..
The graphics in this installment have been given a huge kick up the jacksie (this is not to say the graphics in the first game were awful because they were far from it) But none the less the graphics are far more impressive.
With a selection of new weapons and a couple of returning favourites, this game stays true to its roots and keeps that base level of familiararity for previous players to build on. While we are on the subject of weapons, In the first game you were capable of carrying every weapon that you come across, while this was strategically very good, it was not realistic. With Resistance 2, you are only capable of carrying 2 weapons, this is far more realistic and in some ways makes the game better because you have to try and think ahead, what you will need different weapons for, and thus try to pick the best for all given situations.
The story line is again utterly superb, carrying on from the previous game and as already mentioned, the graphics have improved a lot as games programmers are starting to understand the PS3 more and more, clawing more an more performance out of this godly machine. But the cinematic cut scenes, they leave you with your mouth open and by the time you realise, its too late are you go scrambling for a tissue or something to wipe the already fallen drool! :) They are extremely pleasing well designed and give a HUGE boost to the already amazing storyline.
The chimera (the evil aliens you fight against in this game for the first timers out there, I recommend you buy and play the first game before this installment) have also improved, everything about them simply looks better than it did before and there are more new chimera for you to fill with lead, laser rounds and fuel grenades. ;)
Negative points? Hmmm well the gameplay is superb and the story line is well structured, graphics are amazing, weapon selection is amazing and controller layout is still all amazing, but again the down point to the game is it is simply too short :( Whilst the missions are quite long in themselves, overall the game feels too short for me, this is a truly amazing game but I just feel that there could have been more in this installment.
However I am willing to look past this major flaw for the simple fact that i enjoyed it, thoroughly and completely and give this game 10 stars.. wait noo dooyoo only allows 5!! That seems a little unfair as I would say this game is a huge improvement on an already superb game and since I gave the first installment 5 stars, seemed only right that this deserves 10 (but oh well)
This game is a interesting and a 5 star shooter for the ps3. In resistance you play as a character called Nathan Hail, this game is carried on from the first game Resistance Fall of man. As i was saying Nathan hail was trying to save England from the invasion of the chimera. The chimera had launched a virus which then over took Russia and was sweeping the nation. Nathan was the last survivor but he was affected by the virus. The US army capture Nathan and make a soldier in their army. The game play of resistance is gob smacking the intense graphics and the amazing story line you'll be hooked on this game for hours . once the game is complete doesn't mean the fun stops resistance is a two player online game so you and your friends can battle other people online as the chimera or the US army. The online game play is breathtaking and full with medals and achievements just waiting to be unlocked. I have not found any downsides with the game play and story line but the online servers can be annoying sometimes. i give resistance 2 a 99% rating.
Apparently I was one of the few out there who actually enjoyed the first Resistance on the PS3. Before writing this I went back and re-read my review of the first game and was surprised to see I'd only given it three stars. I might actually be going back to that review at some point because in the months since I can honestly say my opinion has changed significantly.
Resistance 2 continues where the first left off. The world is overrun by alien invaders called the Chimera, these manifest themselves in a variety of forms. Fishlike, manlike, giant stomping enemies and invisible behemoths. The setting however has moved from the UK to the US. The plot is largely irrelevant, you move from scenario to scenario, completing missions with the goal of repelling the invasion. However, the story fails in just about every way the first game succeeded Resistance 2 seems happy to rest on its laurels and sell copies purely on its attractive graphics. Where the first game presented a realistic, 50s setting that appeared largely unchanged by the invasion, resistance 2 throws this out of the window. Now the settings are either typical sci-fi or mock-halo countryside settings. A few 50s scenes do turn up but they are few and far between.
The enemies have changed the most between games. Where Resistance 1 had predominantly soldiers that had few differences, 2 offers a much wider range of obstacles. The drawback is that these enemies tend to be totally lacking in any imagination. New to the game are swimming monsters that basically make any water they inhabit to be instant death, a game mechanic I thought we had seen the back of years ago. Also introduced as boss battles in which the giant enemy monster follows strict behaviour patterns leaving you waiting to hit the weak spot and breezing through. Later there are pointless, poorly balances nuisances like a field populated with invisible enemies that can kill you in a single hit.
Where the game redeems itself is in its interesting selection of weapons. Included are ingenious guns such as the magnum, a .44 revolver that fires bullets you can later trigger to detonate in a small explosion. This opens up bizarre scenarios where you can shoot a wall and then trigger it to explode when the enemy walks past. It's a creative development and most of the guns in the game are equally well thought out. This and the general competent production of the game allow some fun to be had but it is by no means the first class title it has been hyped up as.
This game has been hyped up overly it is a brilliant game do not get me wrong. But the problemis that you cannot play this game without asking yourself what they hell are my teammates doign. Once you find that the computer controlled allies suck, becuase they decide to run off and do nothing from the side lines, and that the enemy alien cpu does not suck at all, it gets rather quite annoying.
However this doesnt take away the fun from the game rather more just makes you more determined to battle through alone bringing out all your male blooded testosterone pumping action as take alien skum down and then empty a magazine in their face for revenge. It just feels so satisfying,.
Graphically and gameplay wise this game is really good. Also the online is awesome with really insane battles and people always online definately one to go online with. The co-op online is great fun, gives you a change andsomething else to do. You gotta level up your character in the co-op online and offline and by doing so unlock new and cool weapons for the 3 different types of solier. The soldier (typical), special ops and medics.
The co-op has a complete different story and mission line to try which is nice for a change just a shame you can only play a local co-op game of 2 players. without going online. Other than that the game is really good.
Resistance 2 was launched in November 2008 and is the dequel to the orginal best-selling Resistance fall of man which launched alongside the PS3. Resistance 2 is a single player game where you control Nathan Hale who is part of a special team of soldiers who are 'The Sentinels'. All of these soldiers including Nathan Hale are infected with a deadly virus called 'Chimera virus'. It is then up to you to put an end to this and save mankind. Resistance 2 really does pick up the story right where Resistance left off and you can easily take place. Unlike the first Resistance where you are just based in and around England, Resistance 2 takes you around multiple countries and all around the USA. This I found to be really exciting because the gameplay seems to be on a much larger scale now and you feel part of a world war and opposed to a civil war.
The first thing that really impressed me was that whilst they have kept quite a few guns from the orginal they have also added some new, very impressive weapons such as the 'Marksman'. I would say that the gameplay is just as fun as ever and really is very action packed. It is not uncommon to find yourself trying to kill 10 or more monsters at the same time! There is also bosses which are huge and so they will take quite a bit of firepower to take down. I have found the graphics throughout the game to be very, good especially the clips. There are however, some glitches where the textures go really strange but this does not really cause any major problems.
Another feature in Resistance 2 is that you can only carry two guns with you, which is unlike the orignal Resistance where you could take as many as you like. I suppose this is more realistic but is quite annoying. I also found the new health feature is to be very different, at first I wasn't sure whether I liked it or not but then I eventually warmed to it. Instead of using a common health bar, Resistance 2 uses a health regenration feature where when you are not being shot you recover health. It is different but I think it works well for the game.
When I bought this game I was really hoping that the mutliplayer would be as good if not better than the previous Resistance. I found it to be excellent, there is an online multiplayer mode that allows you to play with some of your friends in coperative with each other. There is four main multiplayer modes that are available though, deathmatch, team deathmatch, capture the flag and skirmish. I can not tell you how much fun the multiplayer is and it really does help to set this game apart from others. I found the map layouts to be very good and varied, you have the option of either playing as the Chimera or Humans. There is also a great deal of unlockables and perks that are available which really does give you an incentive to keep on playing. There is 60 players that can play in one map on skirmish and when playing I didn't notice any lag what so ever! A great multiplayer feature throughout and really makes this game what it is.
I found the game in general to be a big improvement over the last one because firstly it is just as fun as the previous one. The new and improved weapon set also makes the game even more enjoyable, for example there is a Magnum gone that has exploding bullets! Whilst there is still the bullseye gun which was an excellent gun in Resistance. I really like the fact that the game has different difficulties that you can choose from because you can be assured that the game will give you a challange. So the single player really was fantastic it has to be said. I just wasn't so pleased with the ending because it doesn't answer all of the questions, maybe that is in preparation for Resistance 3.
I think that the story is very good overall and I like the way that it joins well with the previous Resistance. I don't like the fact that there is no real narrator unlike the first Resistance and so I found the story harder to follow in some ways. I originally got this game for £40 from Amazon but you can now get it for just over £33 which I think is a great deal. I hope this was useful and thank you very much for reading.
First, resistance 1 and now resistance 2. Basically the game is the same with the same story line as the previous game of trying to destroy the kimera (a race of aliens living in the earth) so that they do not take over the world.
Just like the old game it has fantastic graphics and gameplay which make the game really come to life and makes it more exciting. The co-operative is just as good as in resistance 1 but is set up slightly differently because instead of completing the single player campaig together, there is a completely new range of missions for the co-operative mode.
One big improvement is the online play. Together with people all over the world unlike in other games where you can just kill each other or you can complete the new series of co-operative missions togther which means if you don't have a friend to play with offline you don't miss out . So you never get bored.
Overall this is a fantastic game. If you loved resistance 1 you will love this its is basically the same but has better graphics and amazing online matches. I highly recommend it if you just want to play it by yourself or with you friends when they come round. It is fantastic
The United States is being invaded by the evil Chimera hordes, and only you can stop them. Set in an alternate universe in which World War II was cut short by an alien invasion, this exclusive PLAYSTATION 3 first-person shooter sees the battle moving in the 1950s from the recently liberated UK to a human resistance base in Iceland and finally onto America.
