Advantages: gorgeous rendering, amazingly intriguing story line
Disadvantages: not long enoughm you dont want it to end!
This is the greatest First Person Shooter series that has ever graced a games console in my opinion.
The first title in the 'Resistance' series is 'Fall of Man'. The series is set in an alternate reality during World War II. A hostile race of aliens have 'infected' the planet earth and much has fallen to the hands of the evil, alien 'Chimera' which are a race of almost reptilian creatures that rely on cooling packs surgically implanted into them to keep them cool other wise they quickly die.
You play the american soldier; Sergeant Nathan Hale (Nathan is an awesome name ;P) who was sent on a mission to collect supplies from Great Britain. Upon arrival he, and his squad are attacked by chimera and telling you anymore about the story would spoil it for you so I shall shut up. ;)
The game play is very fluid and moves at a good pace with a sound and well designed story line. The controls are well laid out and easy to use on the controller. There are no jumpy sections of the game that I found whilst playing and the graphics and physics engine are extremely well designed (of course considering it is on the PS3 utilising its cell processors and nvidia graphics) and the chimera models perfectly receive damage and there are no spots on them that rounds go through, something else that I rather enjoyed when I discovered it is simply how well the chimera ARE designed, as mentioned before they have cooling units on their backs. Once they are dead you can shoot the pipes on their power units and they will shoot off the body flapping around everywhere as compressed gas spurts out of them. Whilst a lot of you might deam this to be a rather mundane think to point out, but it is just so aethetically pleasing and goes to show how much thought and time has been put into the production of this game even though it was one of the release titles for the console.
If i was to compare it to another game, I would have to say It is like having Halo set on earth and in the World War II time period which is very pleasing.
Overall this game is stunning and a fantastic start to the series.
Summary: A must have
