Advantages: Good looking, online features and very rewarding to play.
Disadvantages: Flickit may take some getting used to - sometimes a bit TOO realistic.
I have owned Skate 2 for a few weeks now, having bought it off amazon for a pretty decent price. I'm going to go through the good and bad points of the game, and hopefully you'll be able to see if it's the right game for you.
First off, I would like to recommend you download the demo of Skate 2 off the PSN Store (free to download). Chances are (as with most games) that if you don't like the demo, you should be hesitant about buying the game.
The first thing you realise about Skate 2 is that it's going to take a while for you to master the controls of the Flickit Trick system. Unlike Tony Hawk games, you can't just hit the jump button off a ramp and button bash to do some crazy stunt, oh no. You must learn the ins and outs of how to achieve the flowing transition you need in order to create a seamless, almost beautiful skating experience.
The campaign is very enjoyable, and incorporates tutorials and learning stages well into the story. However, for those of you who have already played the first Skate title, there is the option to turn this off and start off without people telling you how to ollie!
Another great feature is the video editing, which basically allows you to record and manipulate any trick or series of moves you want, either in campaign or Freeskate mode. Once you have messed around with your video, you can upload it directly to the Skate Reel where you can watch everyone's uploaded trick sets all in one place.
One thing I would say - it takes time to get used to. There are points in the game which are incredibly fustrating, mostly because of the Flickit system. But rest assured that once you get the general gist of it, Skate will knock previous Tony Hawk games for six.
Overall - excellent urban skating experience with good online interaction and an innovative control system. Stick with it, you soon won't be able to put it down.
Summary: Great fun to unwind with, as well as a good challenge to master. Recommended title for your PS3.
