Advantages: Great Graphics, New Control System, Realistic Simulation.

Disadvantages: Bad Framerate At Points, Inability To Get Off Board.

If you are expecting a new take on the Tony Hawk's series then think again, Skate takes skateboarding games to a new high and knocks Tony right off the leaderboard.
First up we have an entirely new control system, the old push the button to ollie is out and it's in with analogue stick controls that allow the user to control the body, hands and feet individually.
The good thing about this new system is that if you know a little about skateboarding and how to perform the odd kickflip or nollie then you'll be happy to hear that performing these moves is not a million miles away from how you would actually do it.
If you like the Tony hawk's series however then your probably going to be a little wary of this title because this is NOT your press square to kickflip R1 to backflip insane button basher, instead pulling off flip and trick moves is a lot more technical and you have to think about your tricks before setting up making SKATE a complete skateboarding experience.
In my younger days i used to skate a little and i found myself revisiting my youth as i tore up the streets, parks benches and every other piece of terrain this game has to offer.
You'll find yourself trying to master individual tricks just like you would have to if you were really skateboarding and you'll revel in the fact that you spot a nice place to skate as you cruise the map then before you know it you've just played for 3 hours at one spot trying to pull off the trick that YOU JUST HAD TO NAIL!.
This game is to me more of a skateboarding simulator that a game and this is by all means not a bad thing. If you are or ever have been into skateboarding at all then i think you'll find something in this title that you'll love.
Graphically this game is sound although the framerate does tend to slow and get a little glitchy when the traffic and AI skaters build up in one area, this can be annoying when trying to score points on one of the bigger combo's as you lose your rhythm and have to start again.
The other annoying thing about this game is that you can't get off your skateboard, this can be REALLY IRRITATING when you spot something that you just have to skate, then have to spend half an hour getting to it because you keep falling off your board and restarting from a safe point nearby.
I never played this online so i can't comment on that, however i will point out that i never felt the need to because everytime i put it on i would always get lost in something new that i was trying to do.
Skate is an awesome achievement for EA whom are currently working on it's sequel, it makes the Tony Hawk games look outdated and blows them away.
Any skater worth his/her salt should own this title!.

Summary: Complete Skateboarding Simulation That You'll Get Lost In For Hours, A Must Have For Any Skater!.
