Advantages: Very realistic, great gameplay and story.

Disadvantages: not enough customisation for your character

When i first heard of skate i was a bit sceptical and thought that Tony hawks would still be the better game. Even though I am a fan of Tony Hawks I downloaded both the demos to compare them and found out that Skate was a much better game. The Flickit control system is very clever and origional and gives the game a much more realistic feel, Unlike Tony Hawks where you just press a few buttons to do an insane unrealistic combo of impossible tricks. The story is great too. You have to build up your reputation by recording tricks, Entering competitions and getting your photos in the skateboarding magazines, Eventually reaching the cover. It all takes place in sunny San Velona, A big city with alot of exiting places to skate and meet people. The graphics look really nice aswell. Especially on a HDTV. When you go smashing into a car or a brick wall you can hear every bone crunch and see it. There is no blood but then if there was it would probably have to be a 12 or a 15. You can even watch the replay in slow motion to see where you went wrong. You can record your best tricks and post them online. People will rate them so you can see how good it was. The online play is fun aswell. You can do different challenges against freinds or strangers or just skate around in free mode. The customisation is beaten by Tony Hawks but then again this is a skating game and not a dress up game. Overall I think this is a better game than Tony Hawks, You will definately get alot more hours of fun out of it and I would give it an 8/10. It's no metal gear solid 4 or call of duty but it is still a great game. But now that skate 2 is out I would reccomend that instead. It has everything Skate 1 has and more.
