Advantages: great flick it system and crisp clean graphics
Disadvantages: far to sensitive
Introduction
I love to skate. I love to game. Skate seemed perfect. I had some spare cash and a game or two that needed to be traded in so I picked up Skate. With my wallet empty and some room on my games shelve I but Skate in and hope I wouldn't get bored with my board.
Plot
You're a nameless skater hoping to get lucky and be spotted. So when you are asked if you want to be filmed you pull out all the stops to show off what you got. You jump grind a rail land it in a manual and..... Get hit by a bus. You awake from a coma with you buddy at your side and all you want to do is get skating again. So begins you quest to get noticed in the competitive skate world.
Features
The game takes itself from the button bashing roots of the Tony Hawks series and uses an innovative "flick it" system. This means that for example rather than doing a kick flip by pressing triangle, you flick your right analog stick in a certain way. This feels great and give you a real sense of control over your skaters movements however it is not with out its flaws. I found that it was far to sensitive and I often lost a game of S.K.A.T.E due to pulling off the wrong move due to the over sensitivity. I would have liked it better if you held a different button and used flick it at the same time to differ moves rather then focus on just one.
Game play
The graphics are amazing with lighting affects shines seeming almost to real. However the animations of the public around you or even your own skater seem rather robotic and poorly done. You just don't get the same satisfaction knocking into people if it doesn't look good enough.
Conclusion
A great game with lots to do and see with plenty of computations to enter and hours of game play.
Summary: a few problems that i can over look due to the great fun i have had with it
