In 1991 Sonic Team unveiled their fledgeling creation onto the Sega Megadrive/Genesis in North America, Europe and Japan. It was seen not only as a flagship title for Sega, but was hailed by many as a revolution in platform gaming. The incredible graphics, lush backdrops and superbly animated characters truly made for a jaw-dropping experience. Since then of course Sonic and co have become gaming icons, and have existed in the hearts and minds of the public for many years now, a fact that is sure to please their original creators and is a testament to their creative genius. Okay, yet another Sonic game, they have looked a lot at what Sonic want and do not want in their games and for the future, less of the silly new characters they invent, less boring storylines, well they have taken note at not putting all those other characters in, but Tails isn't playable?!!! No way! And not only that, they make a supposedly frightening scary monster that Sonic changes into which is very slow and scratches enemies to shreds, well it's like they've introduced Blanka from Street Fighter to be like Sonic, it just doesn't work, they have really made a let down of this part of the game.And with this said, i'm not going to say well the NORMAL part of Sonic ... A huge step in the right direction for the series; yet flawed as ever. Sonic Unleashed is the first title in the series to use an all-new game engine - appropriately named the Hedgehog Engine - which guides Sonic through lush environments in both 2D and 3D sections seamlessly, and is a vast, vast improvement recent flops Sonic Heroes, Shadow the Hedgehog and Sonic the Hedgehog 2006.
