Advantages: Beautiful game, great story

Disadvantages: weak combat/gameplay, glitchy and repetitive

I played this game a little while ago now with great anticipation, unfortunately I was left disappointed by the gameplay, but the story was really great. The game is set in the classic star wars era, before Luke Skywalker's appearance, with Master Starkiller (which was going to be Luke's name in the films but it served a last minute change). It's a good idea, for the game, Darth Vader's apprentice who is a part of killing the remaining Jedi, and you are in control able to destroy everything in your path.

The story goes on with plenty of twists and turns, even a bit of romance, I really enjoyed this aspect of the game. However, the gameplay and graphics left me feeling like I had been cheated out of my money. There are a set number of controls with various unlockable combos which can be practiced in an arena with your robot. This is a nice touch, but ultimately the game and force powers end up causing an uncontrolled button bashing frenzy. Fun if you can play two-player (you can't), fun for some kind of duelling element separate from the story (there isn't) but boring for completing a repetitive game (which it is).

What you do in this game is run along defeating generic enemies, and a few mini bosses with various button combo cut scenes to finish them before you eventually reach the boss at the end of the level. The boss takes various tactics to beat, usually very easy to find out, and then a simple cut scene button combo thing kills them. This same type of level plays out for the entire game, with one or two exceptions.

Graphically, the worlds are very beautifully designed and this is a major plus, along with the story, however the glitches overshadow this and is really unfortunate. You can end up sort of half floating half standing at various points, or just walking over something you shouldn't be able to walk over, it's really unfortunate because graphically the game is really nice to look at. Also, on a similar note the level of control with the force and lightsaber is too generic. The same animations play out time and time again, making the game feel longer than it is (which is relatively short).

I completed this game within 2 sittings; it's not hard at all, and with no other modes, makes the game really quite a disappointment. It's a shame because the game has so much potential, the story and the nice graphics get this game 3 stars. For the next game (which is rumoured to be made soon) if they take a leaf out of Batman: Arkham Asylum and Assassins Creed II books for their combat system and remove the glitches, and get the same story, and get some kind of online duelling mode, and incorporate a special ops style co-op mission, this could become a 5 star game. Easily.

Overall; good story, great graphics but weak gameplay and repetitive. So 3 stars, it'll keep you entertained. But not for long.

Summary: Not great value at full price, but great story
