Advantages: Great plotline, addictive gaming and open ended play!
Disadvantages: Suffers from bug glitches.
Skyrim is part of a series of games called Elder Scroll; I haven't played any of the previous games in that series. The people behind some of the Fallout games are behind this, which is why I purchased this game as I have previously enjoyed the open world type gameplay that they cater to!
Plot
The basic plot of the game is that the world that you are living in has become overrun with dragons. You find out that you are connected to the dragons and set out on a journey to save the players world from the dragon threat whilst getting mixed up in loads more adventures along the way. To tell you any more than that would not only ruin the game but also mislead you as this game is as open ended and free roaming as you can get!
Graphics
For the PS3 you will be impressed, the huge open world is full of surprises, the snow and the water details are amazing! You find that some points do appear a little bit choppy and the game can suffer from lag when performing spells which look amazing, but for the most part you can't fault the graphics.
Soundtrack
The soundtrack is great, the music has been composed especially for the game and you will find that when you are walking along the music will set the scene in a way that the graphics cant. The dragon fights particularly have some epic orchestral delights!
Gameplay
With this game like most other fantasy RPG's you get to choose the characters appearance, you can also choose the race which will allow certain benefits depending on the way you which to play. You can choose to focus on several different ways of fighting, I have only focused on the magical properties so far, but you can use swords, maces, axes and bows as well as other weaponry to defeat your opponents. The game does suffer with glitches, you might get stuck in certain spots when exploring and find that you can't get back out or on occasion the game might freeze up completely. But fortunately they are addressing these issues with patches!
The great thing about this game is that you can play it how you like; you can end up owning a house and going on the thousands of mini quests or just steaming through the main part killing people without a care in the world. It's all totally up to you, that's what makes it so difficult to review; no two players will play the same game.
In my opinion this game offers action, adventure and a great way to lose a few hours, days or even weeks to your PlayStation 3, you find that the more you play the more you want to explore. You can end up spending hours just wandering around looking at the scenery!
Summary: Great for the winter, perfect excuse to stay in and fight some dragons!
