The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim (PS3)
Advantages: the glorious scenery, the character selection choices and the side missions
Disadvantages: not enough chatting or negotiating opportunties, the finale of the main quest lacked a little
Now, I have been known to slag off this genre - My partner plays this fantasy type genre over and over again and they all look the same to me. I have even given it a pet name "pot on head" because all the characters seem to walk about with pots on their heads saying things like "good morrow good fellow"
However, Skyrim changed my narrow minded views. I loved this game and spent over 50 hours of my life absorbed in it.
Skyrim is a role playing game you play the dragon born, you will embark on a quest to save the world from destruction by the ruthless dragon god Alduin. Ambitious? Indeed.
You can choose and design your own character you can choose your sex, race and appearance. Take your time over this because you are probably gonna spend a long time being this character. The choices you make will affect how your game plays. Gladly I loved my high elf she was one mean woman although it did take me time to get her there as your character will build in skills the more you partake in certain activity's i.e the more you sneak the more sneaky your character will become.
There is so much to do in Skyrim - you can use magic, buy and sell in shops, be a sneaky little thief, be an assassin you can engage in a bit of smithing to build your own armour, improve your armour and weapons to sell or to use yourself. you will also find dragon words that give you awesome shouting powers which you will wish you could have in the real world.
Along the way you will meet different guilds such as the thieves guild or the assasins guild to win the loyalty of the guild and eventually rule the roost you can engage in missions for them I would highly recommend you follow the guild quests through as they are fun and sometimes surprising and you will be rewarded for your efforts.
The world of Skyrim is extraordinary and beautiful you can spend many hours just wandering about or riding your horse around exploring the world and admiring the scenery.
The only negative criticism I would say is the relationships - their wasn't enough relationship building or banter with the other characters in this game. You are on a long journey it would be nice to have a bit more chat along the way. I enjoy the speech element of RPG's so would like to be able to negotiate a bit more during the game. In saying that if you wish you can get married in this game which is a nice touch.
Also, I would have wanted the games main quest to defeat Alduin to be a bit more involved that it was and have a grander finale however, they really have packed a lot in already to this game.
The best thing in Skyrim though? The dragons. The dragons are wonderfully crafted and you will come accross many of them on your journey so go on go buy skyrim, kill some dragons, immerse yourself and then wait for the expansion pack Dawnguard which I believe is out soon! Enjoy
Summary: Awesome game and I dont use that word lightly.
