Tony Hawk's Proving Ground is the latest release in the legendary series of the Tony Hawks games! I like many others have been a fan of the Tony Hawks series right from the very beginning. I couldn't wait to try out this new release and I wasn't sure quite what to expect. It turns out that the style of gameplay in many ways is quite different which I really liked as it made the game far more interesting for me. Now there is a much wider array of characters to play from including of course Tony Hawks himself, Bam Margera and even the opportunity to create your very own character!
In this game what I loved most was how they have created a story mode where you have to complete missions. But don't worry if you are a fan of the originals like me because they still have classic mode on all of the maps, which is great fun to play on! The controls are as good as ever and matched by more tricks than ever before! One last thing to say would be about the skatepark maker which allows you to make your very own skateboard park in full glory! I hope this was useful and thank you very much for reading this!
I loved the Tony Hawk series on the Playstation 2 and couldn't wait for the next game to release on the Playstation 3. However, when it finally came I wasn't impressed and found Skate to be better. The gameplay isn't very good and the options available have decreased from the last game.
The graphics are ok on a HDTV but they aren't very good compared to the best on the Playstation 3. The soundtrack it good but the framerate isn't very good. The game also frezzes at times.
You will become a pro skater in the game and you have a few choices in which route to take. You can choose from: Career Skater(Win Prizes and Be a Pro), Rigger Skater (Uses things to skate from the enviroment) and Hardcore (A Hardcore Skater). These have decreased from the previous choices from the other versions. The game becomes very repetitve and the enviroment isn't as good as in Skate. It isn't as big to explore and the game doesn't last as long. The game is very easy and has easy controls making it good for children.
I brought Skate at the same time and I think that is better. I got bored of the game after a couple of hours play. This game is totally different from other versions. Overall, the game should only be brought by Tony Hawk fans as Skate is better.
The next installment of the Tony Hawks series finally arrived back in November 2007 and I have to say right now that I am not a fan.
The first games in this series were excellent, the game play was good and it was fun trying to complete all the objectives. Sadly the more recent games in the series have went way down hill. I think the problem is the creators, 'Neversoft', have moved away from the games roots. The objective in this game is to become a pro-skater and you have to choose the path you want to take ie, what kind of skater:
Career Skater - make a living from skateboarding
Rigger skater - make ramps and rails from the surrounding environment.
Hardcore Skater - skating for the love of the sport.
Because of this the gameplay has worsened and the enjoyability is greatly decreased.
The graphics in the first games were acceptable for the times, probably even better than most. but I don't think the current games graphics are particularly great.
I got bored of this game the first day I bought, after about 1 hour of trying to get used to the new gameplay and failing.
I don't recommend buying this game, especially if your a fan of the earlier games.
Neversoft, please return to the games roots.
