Advantages: Easy to Play

Disadvantages: Online cheats, Repetitive Menu, Basic Arenas

' UFC 2009 Undisputed ' is the newest game based on the fastest growing sport in the world MMA (Mixed Martial Arts).
After downloading the demo from the Playstation store, disliking the game and branding it as an all out button basher, I deleted it.
However, this was only my experience of playing the compuer. I tried the demo again at a friends house and thought it was brilliant when you play someone else.
So I decided to download the demo again. This time round fighting the computer was more fun for some reason, so I bought the real game.

*** Gameplay ***

The gameplay is excellent. One of the most frustrating things about these types of game is when you can't move or face the way you want, but this isn't a problem in UFC 2009 Undisputed.
The buttons are easy to get the hang of, with TRIANGLE, SQUARE, CIRCLE and X all controlling either a leg or arm. The rear buttons are used to differ the part of the body you attack.
As I mentioned at the beginning it can be a button basher if you want it to be, but you cant also pick your punches and fight smartly or if you have the patience then you can learn some of the many combos available.
I prefer to just pick my punches.

*** Game-modes ***

** Career Mode **

In this mode you create your own fighter and try and turn him into a champion UFC fighter. Most things are customisable when creating your character. The key part is deciding which weight division you
want to fight in and distributing your start-up points to give your fighter a fighting chance at the beginning. The main advantage of playing this mode is that you can use your fighter to fight online, but it's probably wise to wait until you've trained him up a bit.

You can train your fighter in three ways :

'Sparring' - spar against your training partner to gain points which can be used to improve things such as kicking, punching, submissions, etc

'Training' - this is a let-down because you don't actually do anything, except click a button to pick what you want to improve out of speed, strength and fitness.

'Training Camp' - every now and again you can participate in a training camp where you have to complete certain tasks inside the octagon. You gain points which add up to complete a level. Once you complete a level an are of your attributes will gain a boost, eg 5%.

** Exhibition Mode **

Simply pick the division (Heavyweight, Light Heavy, Middleweight, Welterweight, Lightweight) you want to fight in and then pick your fighter. There are around 80 fighters to choose from, including - Anderson Silva, Forrest Griffin, Chuck Liddell, Brock Lesnar and many more. You can either fight the computer or a friend.

** Online Mode **

Fight online in either ranked or unranked matched. Leaderboards are available, with the main thing you have to accomlish is to move up the levels. You do this by gaining points by winning matches, but you do lose points for losing which is good. I prefer losing points because it stops people fighting lots and there level not reflecting their ability. Fans are also gained, I think this is done by winning exciting fights. I read a review complaing about lots of lag during online, but for me this is not the case. The only minor problem with online is that when choosing your fighter the game can become unresponsive for a few seconds. And the major flaw is people turning off their internet if you're about to beat them, this causes the match to not refister.

* Classic Fights *

You have to relive a classic fght from the UFC, winning the fight in the the same round and under the same circumstances as the fight was won. Yo get to watch real clips of the fighters talking about each other before the fight and if you complete the fight successfully then you get to watch the fights highlights. The only slightly annoying thing about this mode is that some fights require you to win by a certain submission, so if you don't kniow how to get into the correct position then this requires luck.

*** Graphics & Sound ***

*Graphics* - The graphics are okay without being anything special. The fighters are reasonably detailed with freckles and sweat and the blood is very clear when a fighter is bust open. However the crowds aren't very detailed and are quite inactive, despite the noise they appear to be making. Also, there are different arenas to choose between but unless you choose the training gym then its hard to tell the difference.

*Sound* - As I mentioned before the crowd makes quite alot of noise, without physically showing it. The noise when kicks and punches are landed are fine, there isn't much that could be done with that. The music is heavy metal and although I wouldn't listen to this music on a CD it fits perfectly with this game.

*** Other ***

Trophies are avilable as with all PS3 games released now (I think it's a rule). They are gained by winning a certain amount of matches in different ways eg, 20 KO's. You also get them for reaching different levels online. Without trying to really achieve anything specifically I'm currently at 21%.

Another small annoying thing is that some menus are un-necesarily repetitive. Mainly when trying to add logos to your shorts in career mode.

*** Overall ***

I would highly recommend this game to basically anyone. I normally don't really like fighting games such as Fight NIght, Wrestling games or Tekken, but this is an excellent game.
You could get quite alot of use out of this trying to become champion in every division or by trying to work your way up the rankings online. It is also a game which you could play when you're bored of all other games.

'9/10'

Summary: Excellent game
