Advantages: Fighting, Graphics, pick-up-and-play fun

Disadvantages: Loading screens, limited features, minor clipping issues.

Sometimes when you review a game like this, it's difficult to decide on the final point you want to get across. Usually it's a "buy it" or "avoid it" decision, but with this game it's more complicated than that.

The game itself is fairly limited in terms of game options. Of course this is limited by the nature of the sport - it's not Tag Matches and Ladder Matches here like other THQ games you might know - but at the same time, you can't help wishing for more.

The game consists of:

Exhibition (1 on 1)
Career Mode
Classic Fights
Online
Create a Fighter

Career mode is on the fun side of difficult and, as I mentioned above, Exhibition mode is a whole heap of fun when played with friends. Online is flimsy and Create a Fighter is much smaller than it could be. Classic Fights is basically Exhibition mode with intro videos - something for the fans of the sport.

However, the fun can be short-lived. When you're playing with more than 2 people, handing the controller around and watching fight after fight can wear thin.

No, you can't have more than 2 fighting at once, but there should be more to involve passive players. Where's the tournament mode? Why can't you fight for belts in Exhibition mode? Why not add a challenge mode? (Something like players fighting to score the fastest knockout would be fun. Add submission, TKO, and something like scoring a number of specific hits or damage points and it would be quickly be a more involving experience for everybody as you try to beat the last pair's score)

I shan't go into much detail on the rest of the game - anybody can read a pro review to hear about the beautiful graphics or the excellent animation and combat. I hope that this review let's people know about something most reviews don't touch on.

I would recommend to wait for UFC: Undisputed 2 before buying into the franchise. By then the features will be greater, the gameplay slicker, and your money better spent.

Summary: Sometimes fun isn't enough.
